Summary
We require your positive attitude and professional demeanor to fulfil an exciting opportunity as a Design Apprentice. The Design Apprentice is responsible for assisting the design team in various aspects of their roles.
Responsibilities
This is an entry level position. Below are the expectations regarding knowledge to be developed to be able to contribute in this role:
- Learn to identify the various garment models by their names and understanding the naming conventions used.
- Understand how the models themselves are organized and how the various components come together to create the finished garment.
- Develop an understanding of made to measure garment and how an order is marked up with alteration codes.
- Become proficient in identifying posture attributes for customers based on grid pictures from retailers.
- Learn the repair process – What is required when a garment comes back to the shop and how to identify the problem? If it’s pattern related, how to fix it. If it’s related to another department, what needs to be done to have it fixed?
- Cloth coding – How to code cloth properly to account for shrinkage in pressing.
- How to properly and consistently measure a finished pattern.
- Making spec sheets with PDM and maintaining the specs when changes are made.
- Learning to make patterns to send out for cutting dies.
- Checking grading.
- Cross train with AM5 department.
- Develop proficiency in AS400.
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Minimum qualifications required to successfully perform the job:
- Pattern design and alteration education and/or experience is an asset.
- Gerber, AS400 and Adobe Illustrator is an asset.
- Excellent attention to detail
- Ability to use a computer effectively including: Excel, Word, working knowledge of AS400 is an asset
- Flexible to meet constantly changing demands of the workplace
- Strong communication skills, able to develop relationships and foster cooperation.
- Confident in interacting with all levels of staff.
- Proven desire to provide quality service to our staff and customers.
- Basic math skills, including converting from metric to imperial and fractions.

Pay: $18.00-$20.00 per hour
