ABOUT US
ODC Tooling is a century-old family manufacturing company specializing in custom tooling and machinery for the automotive, food packaging, and medical packaging industries, with facilities in Ontario, Illinois, and Florida.
THE ROLE
We're looking for a capable, self-directed HR Generalist to own the day-to-day HR function across our Canadian operations and smaller US operations. You'll be the go-to HR person on-site — running recruitment, health & safety, benefits, and employee support with real ownership and autonomy.
This isn't a paper-pushing role. You don't need to be a seasoned HR specialist, but you should bring enough hands-on experience to manage the essentials on your own and hit the ground running. In return, you'll have genuine ownership of the function, direct impact on a growing manufacturing business, and the room to make the role your own.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Health & Safety
● Coordinate the Joint Health & Safety Committee — run meetings, maintain minutes, and track follow-ups
● Conduct monthly safety walk-arounds and complete reports
● Review and update safety procedures and handbooks (Waterloo and Batavia)
● Manage WSIB reporting and disability claims
● Maintain Safety Data Sheets, training logs, and employee certifications
● Coordinate safety training with supervisors
Recruitment & Onboarding
● Create job postings and screen applicants
● Coordinate interviews and conduct reference checks
● Prepare employment contracts and required documentation
● Conduct orientations and manage onboarding and offboarding
● Coordinate training with supervisors
Benefits & HR Administration
● Administer group benefits and the Group Retirement Plan (enrollments, changes, terminations)
● Maintain employee records (manual and digital systems)
● Administer apprenticeship programs with the Ministry of Labour
● Process personnel documentation for Canadian and US operations
● Review and update employee handbooks and company policies
● Manage vacation tracking and prepare HR reports
● Manage OINP (Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program) applications and renewals
● Coordinate company social events
● Coordinate occasional travel for managers, as needed
● Other HR-related duties as required
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
Must Have
● 1–3 years of hands-on HR experience — enough to manage day-to-day HR on your own, though you don't need to be a seasoned specialist
● Post-secondary education in Human Resources, Business, or a related field
● Familiarity with Ontario Employment Standards, Human Rights, and Health & Safety basics — you'll be applying them daily
● Strong sense of discretion and confidentiality
● Comfort with Microsoft Office and Excel, and a willingness to learn HRIS and other systems
● Self-motivated and able to work independently as the go-to HR person day-to-day
● First aid and Health & Safety certification, or willingness to obtain (employer-supported)
Nice to Have (Assets)
● HR experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment
● Working toward a CHRP or CHRL designation
● Exposure to multi-location (Canada/US) operations
● Familiarity with apprenticeship programs, WSIB, or disability management
● Payroll experience
WHAT MATTERS MOST
