Your Opportunity:
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced RN to join our collaborative care team in Hepatology. The Casual Registered Nurse - Hepatology is a full scope of practice nursing role with a variety of important functions. The RN monitors and supports viral hepatitis, cirrhosis, and liver cancer patients, as well as patients with more rare causes of liver disease. These role functions involve providing patient/family teaching, medication review and liaising with the in-house pharmacist, Nurse Practitioners, Hepatologists, family physicians, and transplant clinic staff. The RN can expect ongoing collaboration within the care team, especially with the hepatologist and NP, regarding management of care for cirrhotic, decompensated cirrhotic, and liver cancer patients. In addition, the Hepatology RN collaborates with community agencies such as public health; pharmaceutical reps; patient assistance programs, and health care providers within AHS to coordinate care for our patients.

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit holders will be paid $40.76 to $55.79 per hour. Upon obtaining a full practice permit, the rate of pay will be adjusted to the applicable Registered Nurse rate in accordance with UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii), as applicable.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification. Additional Required Qualifications:
Demonstrated advanced knowledge, skills and proficiency in hepatology with a minimum of 3 years acute medicine and/or equivalent experience within the past 10 years. Demonstrated complex case management experience in the past 3 years in an Ambulatory Outpatient clinic setting, including clinical and telephone assessment and triage required. Knowledge of Hepatology required; this includes regimens and protocols and knowledge of Viral Hepatitis B and C treatment experience. Physically able to lift to 40lbs (floor to waist level), reach overhead, and stand for long periods during clinics. Recent experience with adult patient and family teaching. Demonstrated ability to incorporate full scope of nursing practice and knowledge into clinical practice. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Baccalaureate degree in Nursing preferred. Experience with end-of-life and palliative care is an asset. Previous experience in gastroenterology preferred. Ability to work within a multidisciplinary environment as an effective team player to a full scope of practice. Intermediate computer skills working in a variety of clinical & regional-based programs preferred. Excellent English verbal and written skills. Epic training in clinic nurse role preferred.
