Job Summary
Vantage is looking for a Supportive Roommate with a compassionate and understanding approach to shared living who currently resides in Calgary and has experience supporting individuals with complex needs. Candidate must be alright to having a client with known illicit drug use and providing harm reduction support. Location should be somewhere in Chinook, Inglewood or Bridgeland and must be near a C-Train station.
We are looking for a person with strong boundaries, experience with mental health support and developing life skills with a solid background in supporting developmental disabilities.
Responsibilities:
- Provide care and support in their home and in the community for a person with a developmental disability (adult) – including behavioral support.
- Provide companionship and emotional support to roommates, ensuring a friendly and welcoming environment.
- Assist with daily living activities, including meal preparation, personal care, and household chores as needed.
- Facilitate social interactions and encourage participation in community activities or outings.
- Monitor the well-being of roommates and report any concerns to appropriate personnel or family members.
- Maintain a clean and organized living space, promoting a healthy lifestyle.
- Respect the privacy and personal space of roommates while fostering open communication.
- Active participation as part of the individual’s support team.
- Completing documentation as required.
Requirements:
- Directly related experience working with a person with a developmental disability (adult)
- Have a background in disability services including mental health support.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport with diverse individuals.
- Compassionate nature with a genuine desire to help others.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
- Organizational skills to manage daily tasks effectively.
- Current Mandt or CPI, Mental Health First Aid, First Aid and Abuse Protocol are assets.
- Willingness to attend mandatory training.
- Minimum Class 5 Driver's License with 2 Million Liability Vehicle Insurance
- Current Police Check (6 months) with Vulnerable Sector Check
