Position Summary - The Senior Head Guard is responsible to provide the Lifeguards with direction and to ensure that all posted procedures are followed by both Lifeguards and guests alike, along with support the Pool Supervisor with administrative tasks. The Senior Head Guard is a hands-on Lifeguard and is on deck for normal rotations unless they have been tasked with other duties by the Pool Supervisor. The position requires the skills of an individual who is both strong in leadership skills and rule enforcement minded for both staff and pool user’s safety. The position also requires a strong sense for cleanliness, for both the proper pool maintenance and change room facility. The Senior Head Guard reports to the Pool Supervisor and Lodging and Guest Experience Manager.
Pay for this position is $25.00 per hour.
Major Duties & Responsibilities:
- Responsible for making decisions regarding patron safety and ensuring lifeguard to bather ratios are adequate
- Ensure that the rotations are followed and that all lifeguards follow the off rotation clean up in the change rooms and the lawn.
- Ensure that the chlorine is turned off each day and records are being taken
- Keep the first aid supplies stocked and advise manager when an order needs to be placed
- Advise manager of any potential hazards for both staff and customers
- Ensuring staff performs their duties in a safe and efficient manner
- Responsible for educating the public in the policies and procedures related to bather safety
- Responsible for trouble shooting and handling customer concerns
- Advise manager when changeroom stock or chemicals need to be ordered
- Daily reporting to supervisor/manager of issues
- Having quick daily safety meetings and reminders with guards on their shifts
- Perform routine custodial duties in the aquatics area including but not limited to patron and staff change rooms, and pool deck
- Lead and participate in regular scheduled in-service training sessions and meetings throughout the year
- Co-operate and accept other assignments as and when required.
- Required to keep certifications current
- Responsible for adjusting work schedules for day of staffing and the assignment of extra tasks
- Responsible for completing reports; shift reports, incidents, and accidents
- Keeps the head guards informed and make recommendations for improvement or changes
- Lead and participate in regular scheduled in-service training sessions and meetings
- Obtains additional tasks from Pool Supervisor
- Help train and teach new lifeguards
- Process refunds in the absence of the supervisor at their discretion
- Call in other pool staff if short staffing occurs
- Reports instances of overtime to supervisor to be properly imputed into payroll
- Assists with stock of all pool consumables and first aid supplies as directed by the supervisor.
Minimum Qualifications & Skills:
- Current NLS certifications
- Current CPR-C certifications
- Minimum of 3 years of previous Lifeguarding experience
- Pool Operator Certification an asset.
