Overview
Lynx Specialty Services Ltd. is seeking an experienced Structural Welder / Ironworker to join our growing Alberta operations. This is a field-based position working on commercial, industrial, institutional, and infrastructure projects throughout Alberta. There is no shop work.
The successful candidate will perform structural welding, steel erection, miscellaneous metals installation, rigging, and structural connections while working safely in a fast-paced construction environment. Responsibilities
- Read and interpret structural, erection, and shop drawings.
- Perform structural welding using FCAW, SMAW, and MIG processes in accordance with CWB requirements.
- Erect and install structural steel including columns, beams, braces, joists, trusses, and steel decking.
- Install miscellaneous metals including stairs, handrails, guardrails, ladders, bollards, embeds, canopies, and architectural steel.
- Perform structural bolting, connecting, plumbing, aligning, fitting, and torqueing of steel members.
- Safely rig and guide structural steel and other materials during crane lifts.
- Work at heights using approved fall protection systems, aerial work platforms, and telehandlers.
- Perform field modifications, repairs, and reinforcing as required.
- Assist with the installation of precast concrete, hollow-core slabs, glulam, CLT panels, and other prefabricated structural systems when required.
- Operate grinders, magnetic drills, impact tools, torches, plasma cutters, and other field equipment.
- Verify layout, elevations, and dimensions using lasers, levels, and measuring equipment.
- Inspect completed work to ensure compliance with project specifications and quality standards.
- Complete FLHAs, equipment inspections, and required safety documentation.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area while following Alberta Occupational Health and Safety regulations.
Qualifications
- Journeyperson Ironworker, Structural Welder, or equivalent field experience.
- Valid CWB welding certification (or ability to obtain and maintain certification).
- Minimum 1 year of structural steel erection and field welding experience.
- Experience installing structural steel and miscellaneous metals on commercial or industrial construction projects.
- Strong knowledge of structural drawings and erection procedures.
- Experience with structural bolting, connecting, rigging, and crane operations.
- Comfortable working at heights in all weather conditions.
- Experience operating aerial work platforms, telehandlers, and other construction equipment is an asset.
- Strong commitment to safety and quality workmanship.
- Physically fit and capable of lifting, climbing, kneeling, and working in demanding construction environments.
- Valid Class 5 driver's licence.
- CSTS 2020, Fall Protection, Elevated Work Platform, Telehandler, First Aid, and WHMIS certifications are considered assets.
