Class 3 Driver - Pavement Marking Truck Operator

About the Role
Our client is seeking a skilled and safety-focused Pavement Marking Truck Operator to join their team. This role is responsible for operating specialized paint trucks to apply roadway markings, ensuring precision, quality, and compliance with provincial standards. The ideal candidate brings strong commercial driving experience, mechanical aptitude, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, field-based environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections of paint truck systems, including compressors, spray guns, pumps, paint tanks, and glass bead dispensers.
- Operate pavement marking equipment to ensure proper alignment, width, and spacing using onboard guidance systems, cameras, GPS, and measurement tools.
- Monitor paint flow rates, pressure gauges, and temperature controls to maintain consistent application quality and coverage.
- Coordinate with ground crew, foreman, and traffic control personnel using two-way radio communication to ensure safe and efficient operations.
- Mix and load traffic paint and reflective glass beads, ensuring correct ratios, viscosity, and adherence to manufacturer and contract specifications.
- Maintain accurate daily production logs, including distances marked, materials used, equipment hours, and any maintenance or operational issues.
- Perform routine maintenance and basic troubleshooting on paint truck systems, including nozzle changes, filter cleaning, and pump adjustments.
- Ensure compliance with all traffic safety, environmental, and provincial regulations, including NSTIR and NBDTI standards.
- Maintain a clean, organized cab and work environment, ensuring all safety equipment is present and functional.
- Assist crew members with setup, teardown, and additional field duties as required.
Qualifications
- Valid Class 3 or Class 1 Commercial Driver’s Licence (CDL) with a clean driver’s abstract; Air Brake endorsement preferred.
- Minimum 2 years of experience operating a centreline/long-line paint truck preferred. Candidates with strong commercial driving experience may be considered.
- Knowledge of traffic marking materials such as waterborne latex, thermoplastic, and MMA is considered a strong asset.
- Mechanically inclined with the ability to perform minor repairs, maintenance, and troubleshooting in the field.
- Strong understanding of road safety regulations and work zone safety procedures.
- Ability to read and interpret project plans, road maps, and marking specifications.
- Strong communication skills for coordination with crews and supervisors.
- Physically capable of lifting up to 50 lbs on a regular basis.
- Willingness to work nights, early mornings, weekends, and in varying weather conditions.
