Job Overview
We are currently hiring a motivated 2nd or 3rd Year Automotive Mechanic Apprentice to join a fast-paced fleet service and automotive repair environment.
This role is ideal for an apprentice who has solid hands-on experience, takes pride in quality work, and is ready to continue developing their skills in a busy shop setting. The successful candidate will support repairs and maintenance on fleet vehicles and select client vehicles while working under the guidance of experienced Journeyperson Mechanics.
We are looking for someone who is reliable, mechanically inclined, eager to learn, and capable of contributing in a high-volume environment where safety, quality, and turnaround time matter.
Responsibilities
The Automotive Mechanic Apprentice will be responsible for:
- Assisting Journeyperson Mechanics with diagnostics, repairs, inspections, and maintenance.
- Performing routine vehicle maintenance, including oil changes, fluid checks, filter replacements, tire services, brake work, and general servicing.
- Supporting repairs on suspension, steering, drivetrain, cooling, exhaust, electrical, and engine-related systems.
- Helping inspect vehicles and identify required repairs or safety concerns.
- Using hand tools, power tools, shop equipment, and diagnostic tools safely and properly.
- Completing assigned repair tasks accurately and efficiently based on skill level and supervision requirements.
- Supporting timely completion of service orders while maintaining safety, accuracy, and quality standards.
- Documenting work completed, parts used, and repair findings.
- Keeping the work area clean, organized, and safe.
- Following all company safety procedures and shop standards.
- Assisting with urgent fleet repairs to help reduce vehicle downtime.
- Learning proper diagnostic procedures and repair practices from senior technicians.
- Communicating clearly with supervisors, Journeyperson Mechanics, parts staff, and team members.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have:
- Registered Automotive Service Technician apprentice status, preferably 2nd or 3rd year.
- Previous hands-on experience in an automotive repair, fleet, dealership, or service shop environment.
- Basic knowledge of automotive systems, tools, and repair procedures.
- Ability to perform routine maintenance and minor repairs with limited supervision.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to safe work practices.
- Valid driver’s licence with a clean or acceptable driver’s abstract.
- Ability to lift, bend, stand, and perform physically demanding work.
- Reliable attendance and a strong work ethic.
- Ability to work independently when appropriate and follow direction when required.
Preferred Experience
The following would be considered an asset:
- Fleet maintenance experience.
- Experience working on light-duty trucks, vans, or service vehicles.
- Brake, suspension, steering, tire, and preventative maintenance experience.
- Basic scan tool or diagnostic experience.
- Dealership or independent shop experience.
- Experience using digital work orders or maintenance tracking systems.
- Interest in diesel, electrical diagnostics, or commercial vehicle maintenance.

Work Environment
This is a busy, hands-on shop environment supporting fleet vehicles and select client vehicles. The successful candidate must be comfortable working in a high-paced setting where vehicle downtime matters.
Some days will involve scheduled maintenance, while others will require quick support on urgent repairs. The right person will stay focused, take direction, and continue learning while helping the team keep vehicles safe and on the road.
Compensation
$26–$34 per hour, based on apprenticeship year, experience, reliability, tools, diagnostic ability, and overall fit.
Higher compensation may be considered for a strong 3rd year apprentice with fleet experience, strong production ability, or above-average diagnostic skills.
