We are currently seeking a dedicated full-time Safety Advisor to lead and strengthen our workplace health and safety efforts. In this role, you will work closely with the Safety Manager to implement and monitor health and safety initiatives, ensure compliance with applicable legislation and company policies, and promote a strong culture of safety across all company operations.
The Safety Advisor will also be responsible for key administrative functions, including maintaining and updating safety documentation, managing incident, inspection, and training records, coordinating corrective actions, and ensuring the timely preparation and submission of required safety reports to internal and external stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
· Develop, update, and maintain Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) policies, procedures, and documentation in compliance with Canadian legislation (e.g., the Canada Labour Code, provincial Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) regulations, and WHMIS requirements).
· Maintain accurate HSE records, including Safety Data Sheets (SDSs), training records, incident reports, inspections, and regulatory compliance documentation.
· Prepare and submit regulatory reports to WorkSafe New Brunswick and other provincial authorities, as required.
· Coordinate HSE training programs, including scheduling, tracking employee participation, and maintaining training certifications.
· Support Joint Health and Safety Committee meetings by preparing agendas, documenting meeting minutes, and following up on action items.
· Monitor and analyze HSE performance metrics and prepare reports for management review.
· Conduct field-based risk assessments and Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) to identify hazards and recommend appropriate control measures.
· Perform regular site inspections and safety audits to ensure compliance with Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) legislation, company policies, and industry best practices.
· Provide on-site safety support during high-risk work activities, ensuring the proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and adherence to safe work practices.
· Assist with incident investigations, including root cause analysis, and develop recommendations for corrective and preventive actions.
· Deliver toolbox talks, safety orientations, and other HSE training sessions to employees and contractors.
· Foster a proactive safety culture by engaging with employees, supervisors, and management at all levels of the organization.
· Stay current with changes to Canadian HSE legislation, industry standards, and best practices, and recommend improvements to company programs and procedures.
Qualifications:
· Minimum of 2 years of experience in a health and safety role or a related field.
· Bachelor's degree, diploma, or certificate in Occupational Health and Safety or a related discipline.
· Working knowledge of Canadian Occupational Health and Safety legislation, WHMIS, and applicable provincial regulations.
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint) and HSE management software, such as SiteDocs and ISNetworld (ISN).
· Strong verbal and written communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
· Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and time management skills, with strong attention to detail.
· Ability to balance office-based administrative responsibilities with field-based safety activities.
· Valid New Brunswick Class 5 driver's licence and the ability to travel to company work sites.
· Physically capable of conducting field inspections in a variety of environments, including construction sites and industrial facilities, with the ability to climb ladders, work at heights, and enter confined spaces.
· Valid Fall Protection, Confined Space Entry, and WHMIS 2015 certifications, or the ability to obtain them within a specified period after hire.
