JOB SUMMARY
Bearspaw First Nation is seeking a dedicated and community-focused Program Supervisor – Prevention Programs to oversee the daily operations of prevention programming within the community. This role is critical in ensuring that programs are effectively delivered, culturally appropriate, and responsive to the needs of children, youth, and families.
The Program Supervisor will provide leadership to program staff, support family-centered service delivery, and collaborate with internal and external partners to strengthen community wellness and resilience.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Bearspaw First Nation, an independent signatory of Treaty 7, is one of the three Stoney Nakoda First Nations, alongside Chiniki and Goodstoney First Nations. Members primarily reside in Mînî Thnî (Morley), located approximately 65 km west of Calgary, and Eden Valley, located approximately 120 km south near Longview.
As part of ongoing efforts to address the historical impacts of discriminatory practices affecting First Nations children and families, Bearspaw First Nation is implementing prevention-focused programming. These programs aim to strengthen families, reduce involvement with child and family services, and promote community well-being through culturally grounded supports. The Program Supervisor will play a key role in ensuring these programs are delivered effectively, safely, and in alignment with community values and best practices.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Program Coordination
· Oversee daily operations of prevention programs to ensure efficient and effective service delivery
· Ensure programs are appropriately staffed and equipped with necessary resources
Community Engagement
· Build and maintain strong, respectful relationships with families and community partners
· Support the development of meaningful, culturally relevant programming
Planning and Development
· Collaborate with program staff and the Prevention Program Manager to design programs that meet community needs
· Ensure programming supports children, youth, and families holistically
Family Support
· Monitor and ensure families are receiving appropriate and timely supports
· Promote a strengths-based, family-centered approach
Supervision and Leadership
· Provide day-to-day supervision, guidance, and support to program staff
· Deliver performance feedback and address performance concerns in collaboration with the Program Manager
Collaboration
· Work with other prevention and community programs to ensure integrated and coordinated service delivery
Budget Management
· Support monitoring of program budgets to ensure responsible and effective use of resources
Compliance and Safety
· Ensure programs comply with all applicable policies, regulations, and occupational health and safety standards
Record Keeping and Reporting
· Maintain accurate and confidential records
· Assist in preparing reports as required
EDUCATION, SKILLS, AND QUALIFICATIONS:
· Diploma in Human Services, Nonprofit Management, or a related field is an asset
· Equivalent combinations of education, work experience, and lived experience will be considered
· Experience working with families, preferably within a First Nations or Indigenous community
Certifications & Requirements
· Clear Police Information Check (including Vulnerable Sector Check)
· Intervention Record Check
· Valid Class 5 Driver’s License with a reliable vehicle and clear driver’s abstract
· Valid Class 4 Driver’s License or willingness to obtain
Skills and Abilities
· Strong understanding of Bearspaw First Nation culture, traditions, and history
· Excellent communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills
· Strong organizational and time management abilities
· Experience in data management and reporting
· Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office and program management systems
· Ability to apply trauma-informed and culturally sensitive approaches
· Ability to respond effectively in crisis situations
· Demonstrated empathy, professionalism, and cultural respect
· Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment
EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS:
· Full-Time position
· Evening and weekend work required to meet the needs of families
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Hours per Shift: 7 hours
- Shift Pattern: Full Time
- Length in Shift in Weeks: 35 hour per week
