Skilled / General Labourer
CanTrust Contracting is a growing contracting company serving Thunder Bay and the surrounding area. We provide a wide range of residential and commercial services, including fencing, decks, concrete, landscaping, demolition, interior renovations, and winter snow removal and plowing.
We are currently looking to add a Skilled / General Labourer to our team.
This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working with their hands, takes pride in producing quality workmanship, and wants to be part of a company that values professionalism, reliability, and continuous growth.
Preference will be given to applicants with considerable experience in multiple areas of our trade. However, exceptional candidates with a strong work ethic, a willingness to learn, and a commitment to quality workmanship are encouraged to apply.
Responsibilities
Depending on the season and current projects, responsibilities may include:
Exterior Construction
- Fence construction
- Deck construction
- Concrete forming, placement, and finishing
- Landscaping, grading, and sod installation
- Site preparation and excavation
- Demolition and material removal
Interior Renovations
- Drywall installation and repair
- Trim and finish carpentry
- Painting
- General renovation and finishing work
- Other residential improvement projects as required
Winter Operations
- Commercial and residential snow plowing
- Snow removal and site maintenance
- Sidewalk clearing and winter property maintenance
General Duties
- Load, unload, and transport materials
- Safely operate hand and power tools
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe worksite
- Work efficiently as part of a team while maintaining a high standard of workmanship
Preferred Qualifications
Preference will be given to applicants who possess considerable experience in several of the following areas:
- Fence construction
- Deck construction
- Concrete work
- Landscaping and grading
- Drywall installation and finishing
- Painting and interior finishing
- Trim carpentry
- Demolition
- General carpentry
- Operating skid steers, mini excavators, or other compact equipment
- Safely towing trailers with full-size pickup trucks
- Reading plans and working independently
Minimum Requirements
- Strong work ethic and positive attitude
- Physically capable of lifting 50 lbs (23 kg) or more and performing manual labour throughout the day
- Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Reliable transportation either directly to job sites or to our staging yard at 260 Gore St. W.
- Must possess a valid G or G2 driver's licence
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Punctual, dependable, and safety-minded
Compensation
$19.50–$26.00 per hour, based on experience, qualifications, and demonstrated ability.
Schedule
- Monday to Friday
- 8–10 hour shifts
- Overtime and occasional weekend work may be required during peak seasons
