Job Title: General Accountant
Department: Finance
We are a rapidly growing construction company situated in Scarborough (St. Clair & Warden), seeking an ON-SITE skilled and detail-oriented general accountant.
The ideal candidate will be responsible for part of the day-to-day accounting functions. This will include journal entries, bank and account reconciliations, participating in the month end/year end close, and timely reporting. She / He will also assist the company president with various processes and projects.
The General Accountant will report to the President of the company and the CFO.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ensure transactions are posted to the appropriate general ledger accounts
- Prepare and maintain financial records and working papers in support of transactions
- Prepare and record assets and liabilities
- Pay supplier invoices, including EFTs and wire transfers
- Help reconcile customer statements and resolve discrepancies
- Reconcile vendor statements and resolve discrepancies
- Prepare and complete banks and credit cards reconciliations
- Verify the payroll prepared by the payroll administrator and reconcile payroll accounts
- Prepare and complete balance sheet reconciliations
- Prepare Union, HST, WSIB, payroll, T4 and T5018 filings
- Participate in the month end closing process including account analysis
- Prepare operations reporting
- Assist in the preparation and coordination of government agency reporting and audits
- Assist in ad-hoc analysis and management reporting, as well as other special projects as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
- University degree in accounting
- Minimum of 4 years of hands-on working experience
- Working knowledge of generally accepted accounting practices
- Payroll knowledge
- Proficiency in MS Office with intermediate/excellent Excel skills
- Ability to consistently meet deadlines while ensuring high levels of accuracy
- Superior organizational and time management skills; ability to prioritize and multi-task
- High attention to detail and completeness
- Dependable and exhibit high degree of professionalism
- Strong problem solving, research and analytical skills
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to maintain effective working relationships with all levels of staff and business partners
- Ability to take initiative and work independently as well as cooperatively as a member of a team
- The pursuit of the CPA designation is considered an asset
