As a member of the Donor Experience & Brand Communications team, the Senior Philanthropy Writer is a strategic partner who develops compelling donor communications that inspire philanthropy and demonstrate the impact of giving at Sinai Health.
Working in close partnership with fundraisers, physicians, researchers and clinical leaders, the Senior Philanthropy Writer leads the development of highly customized proposals, stewardship reports, donor communications and fundraising materials that translate complex medical and operational concepts into engaging, inspiring narratives.
Serving as the communications lead for an assigned portfolio of clinical and research priorities, this role develops deep subject matter expertise, collaborates closely with fundraisers on communications strategy, identifies storytelling opportunities and helps shape donor engagement throughout the cultivation and stewardship journey.
Beyond supporting major gift fundraising, the Senior Philanthropy Writer contributes to the Foundation’s broader content strategy by developing donor, hospital leadership and research stories and by leading the editorial strategy for a quarterly donor newsletter aligned with their portfolio.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Acts as a strategic partner by:
- Serving as communications lead for an assigned portfolio of clinical and research priorities, developing deep subject matter expertise and becoming a trusted advisor to fundraising colleagues
- Partnering with fundraisers to develop communications strategies that support donor cultivation, solicitation and stewardship
- Facilitating planning meetings, gathering and synthesizing input from diverse contributors and developing strategies that strengthen donor engagement and support fundraising objectives
- Building collaborative relationships with Sinai Health staff and leadership and Foundation colleagues to identify emerging priorities and compelling stories.
Leads donor communications by:
- Creating customized proposals, impact reports, donor updates, cultivation materials, presentations, gift agreements and other strategic donor communications using InDesign, Word or PowerPoint
- Translating highly complex medical, scientific and organizational information into clear, emotionally compelling narratives tailored to donor interests, history and tone
- Advising stakeholders on messaging, narrative structure, tone and communication approaches that align donor priorities with Foundation objectives
- Editing and refining communications to ensure consistency with Foundation brand voice and editorial standards
- Leading projects from discovery through delivery, managing timelines, competing priorities and multiple stakeholder groups.
Contributes to storytelling and brand building by:
- Leading the editorial planning for a quarterly donor newsletter aligned with an assigned clinical portfolio
- Developing engaging and authentic donor, hospital leadership and research stories that can be leveraged across fundraising, marketing and digital communications
- Continuously identifying opportunities to improve donor communications through new formats, digital storytelling and content innovation.
Job requirements:
- Post-secondary degree or diploma from an accredited educational institution in a relevant communications field; a combination of relevant education and experience will be considered
- A minimum of five (5) years of related experience, preferably in a healthcare fundraising environment
- Demonstrated ability to conduct in-depth research to frame highly complex medical ideas, concepts and accomplishments in lay language, and to combine inputs from multiple players into inspiring and motivating prose
- Excels at fostering relationships, based on trust, integrity and results, with clinicians, researchers, and Foundation stakeholders
- Excellent strategic, problem solving, organizational and planning skills
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with professionalism and clarity in daily work
- Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office, including PowerPoint and InDesign
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment requiring flexibility and multitasking under pressing deadlines

This position has a compensation range of $89,783 to $112,229. The hiring range is $89,783 to $97,265 .
Sinai Health Foundation is a hybrid workplace, located in downtown Toronto. Currently, all employees are in-office on Tuesdays for the Foundation’s “anchor day”, as well as approximately 24 additional in-person corporate meetings, events or activities annually. Additional in-person requirements vary by team and job function. Our Workplace Flexibility policy is reviewed on a bi-annual basis to ensure the current state of hybrid work is meeting our organizational needs.
