JKCE Probuild Contracting Corp. is a growing general contractor specializing in residential, commercial, industrial, and mixed-use construction projects throughout British Columbia.
We are seeking an experienced Construction Project Accountant to support our growing project operations and corporate accounting functions. This role will primarily support our upcoming new project, which will be managed through Sage 300 Construction, as well as other ongoing construction projects.
The successful candidate will have strong construction accounting experience, preferably from a general contractor environment, and be able to manage project financial records, cost tracking, subcontractor payments, and general accounting activities.
Duties
Project Accounting & Cost Control
- Manage project accounting activities throughout the project lifecycle.
- Track project costs, budgets, committed costs, and actual expenditures.
- Maintain accurate project financial records, including cost reports, commitments, purchase orders, invoices, and payment history.
- Review and process subcontractor invoices and supplier invoices.
- Manage Purchase Orders (POs) and ensure project costs are properly allocated.
- Prepare and maintain progress payment documentation, statutory holdbacks, and subcontractor payment records.
- Assist Project Managers with project cost tracking, budget monitoring, and financial reporting.
- Support change order tracking and project cost updates.
- Generate project financial reports using Sage 300 Construction.
Accounting Operations
- Manage accounts payable (AP) and accounts receivable (AR).
- Process payroll and maintain payroll records.
- Prepare GST filings and assist with other government reporting requirements.
- Perform bank reconciliations and account reconciliations.
- Assist with month-end and year-end closing procedures.
- Maintain vendor, subcontractor, and customer accounts.
- Support financial reporting and accounting analysis for management.
Software & System Management
- Maintain daily accounting activities using QuickBooks.
- Manage project accounting activities in Sage 300 Construction, including project setup, cost tracking, commitments, purchase orders, subcontractor invoices, and reporting.
- Support the transition and implementation of Sage 300 Construction for new projects.
Qualifications
- 3–5 years of accounting experience.
- Minimum 3 years of construction accounting experience, preferably with a general contractor.
- Strong understanding of construction accounting processes, including:
- Job costing.
- Project cost tracking.
- Subcontractor invoicing.
- Purchase orders.
- Progress billings.
- Statutory holdbacks.
- Project financial reporting.
- Experience using Sage 300 Construction and QuickBooks is required.
- Experience managing accounting for multiple construction projects is preferred.
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and communicate effectively with Project Managers, suppliers, subcontractors, and management.
- Diploma or degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is preferred.
