Commercial Lead – Natural Gas
APMC is seeking a Commercial Lead to oversee the strategy and performance of its natural gas marketing portfolio. This role integrates origination, trading interface, portfolio optimization, and market strategy to drive value across supply, transportation, and sales. Combining strong commercial judgment with a holistic view of the market, the Commercial Lead plays a key role in structuring and prioritizing commercial activities. Working closely with cross-functional teams, this position ensures alignment between market opportunities, risk appetite, and corporate objectives while serving as a central point of coordination across origination, trading, risk, and operations.
Responsibilities

Develop and execute the commercial strategy for APMC’s natural gas marketing activities.

Optimize portfolio value across supply, transportation, storage, and sales positions.

Establish priorities for origination and marketing activities based on market conditions and corporate objectives.

Provide input into long-term market positioning and growth strategy.

Provide direction and guidance on origination activities, including target customers, producers, and counterparties.

Support structuring and negotiation of complex commercial agreements.

Maintain senior-level relationships with key market participants.

Partner closely with trading to align commercial strategy with market opportunities and risk parameters.

Ensure transactions and portfolio positions are consistent with risk management frameworks and limits.

Contribute to pricing strategy and deal approval processes.

Act as a key authority in evaluating and approving commercial transactions within delegated limits.

Ensure compliance with internal governance, credit, and risk requirements.

Balance commercial opportunity with risk exposure and operational constraints.

Monitor market fundamentals, infrastructure developments, and competitive dynamics.

Translate market insights into actionable commercial strategies and recommendations.

Provide regular updates to leadership on market trends and portfolio performance.

Coordinate across internal stakeholders (trading, scheduling, risk, finance, legal).

A minimum of 10 years of experience in natural gas marketing, origination, or commercial roles within the Alberta energy industry.

Undergraduate degree in Business, Economics, or a related field.

Strong understanding of North American gas markets, including pricing hubs, transportation, and export dynamics.

Demonstrated experience managing or optimizing a commercial portfolio.

Proven ability to structure and negotiate complex commercial agreements.

Strong commercial judgement with a solid understanding of risk and valuation principles Experience in a fast-paced environment with multiple deliverables within a short time frame.

Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (e.g.: Excel, Word, Visio, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint).
