About this unit:
We are a 28-bed unit and member of Sinai Health’s Centre for Inflammatory Bowel Disease devoted to the inpatient medical and surgical management of clients with IBD. The unit primarily specializes in IBD care, while also offering a range of additional services including General Surgery, Surgical Oncology, and Gastrointestinal Medicine (GI). You’ll have the opportunity to acquire specialized knowledge and skills in the clinical care of Crohn’s disease and Ulcerative Colitis, in addition to pre and post-operative patient care.
In this role you will:
- Provide direct patient and family centered care for Inflammatory Bowel/Surgical patients
- Complete physical assessments on patients
- Provide direct patient care in accordance to the CNO standards and Sinai Health's policy and procedures
- Administer medications and provide any necessary care (including, but not limited to wound care, IVs, monitoring drains, prepare patients for procedures, etc.)
- Attend nursing rounds and participate in patient/family meetings
- Collaborate within a multidisciplinary team, including doctors, pharmacists, social workers, clinical nurse specialists, etc.
- Apply a broad range of nursing skills and procedures including (but not exclusive to) CADD pumps, chest tubes, nephrostomy tubes, complex wounds, central lines, enteral feeding tubes, TPN, CIWA monitoring, managing a Code Blues, and chemotherapy
- Participate in the mentoring of learners, peers and other regulated and unregulated health professionals
- Perform other duties consistent with the job classification as required
