Accountant – North York Law Firm
We are seeking an experienced Accountant to join a legal firm in a professional services environment. This role is responsible for overseeing day-to-day accounting operations, including trust accounting, financial reporting, compliance, and month-end processes.
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, highly organized, and comfortable working independently in a fast-paced, regulated environment. You take ownership of your work, ensure accuracy in all financial processes, and consistently meet deadlines.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee full-cycle accounting including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and reconciliations
- Manage trust accounting in compliance with legal and regulatory requirements
- Prepare and support month-end and year-end close processes in collaboration with external accountants
- Prepare and submit government remittances including GST/HST and payroll filings
- Process and oversee payroll accurately and in compliance with regulations
- Monitor cash flow, prepare forecasts, and provide financial updates to leadership
- Ensure accurate financial reporting and maintain up-to-date accounting records
- Reconcile bank and trust accounts regularly and resolve discrepancies proactively
- Maintain financial documentation and internal controls in accordance with firm policies and legal industry standards
- Support budgeting and ad hoc financial analysis as required
What We’re Looking For
- Diploma or certificate in Accounting, Bookkeeping, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience).
- 3–5 years of bookkeeping experience, ideally within a law firm or professional services environment.
- Solid understanding of trust accounting principles and Law Society compliance requirements.
- Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., PCLaw, Clio, QuickBooks Online, or equivalent) and Microsoft Excel.
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and problem-solving ability.
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with professionalism.
- Excellent communication skills and a collaborative approach.

The salary range posted for this role reflects the expected compensation in line with Ontario pay transparency legislation. Final compensation will be based on the selected candidate’s experience, skills, and qualifications and may be positioned anywhere within the stated range.
Pay: $85,000.00-$95,000.00 per year
