Mount Royal University has provided continuing education to the Calgary community and beyond for more than 60 years. We offer more than 1,000 courses and 100 certificates and diploma programs, and have more than 50,000 course registrations each year. Our courses cover a wide range of sectors, including but not limited to social services, business, and health. These courses are offered in a variety of formats on campus, online, in the workplace, and in the community.
The Faculty of Continuing Education and Extension at Mount Royal University (MRU) invites applications from those interested in sharing their enthusiasm and expertise with funeral students as an online instructor. Instructors are contracted on a per course basis to teach in Mount Royal University's Funeral Education programs. Visit our website for program details at mru.ca/funeral.
The position is part-time for the Fall 2026 semester. We are seeking instructors with the ability to teach the following course:
- September 8 - December 5, 2026 plus online final exam December 9, 2026
- Deliver virtual tutorials (dates/times TBD, approximately 5 virtual sessions delivered during course dates)
Embalming Theory I will include the study of health and safety issues including infectious agents, the chain of infection, disinfection, exposure and follow-up requirements. The death process, ante-mortem and post-mortem changes will be studied. The embalming process and procedures will be studied including the use of chemicals and hazardous waste.
- Instruction and course delivery: Facilitate online course delivery using approved curriculum and learning materials, prepare course outline, review and revise assessments, course activities, and slide deck for tutorials, manage course D2L site, and
- Administration: Marking of assessments and submission of course grades, input final grades upon course completion, maintain regular contact with Funeral Service program team, participate in scheduled program meetings, and adhere to program policies and deadlines.
- Licensed embalmer with a minimum of 3-5 years experience in the funeral profession
- Teaching experience in adult education or training, special consideration given to applicants with experience in online course facilitation and engaging students in a virtual environment
- Engaging presentation, facilitation, written and oral communication skills with a track record for professionalism and diplomacy
- Able to maintain strict confidentiality regarding students
- Strong organizational and time management skills; aptitude for problem-solving and attention to detail
- Proficiency in D2L Learning Management System and Google Workspace applications is an asset
