Job Summary
The Lumber Yard associate plays a crucial role in the daily operations of the store and yard and ensuring efficient operations of daily sales, warehouse and inventory. This role requires strong personal skills with proven experience, in-depth product knowledge, and the ability to foster a safe, efficient, and customer-focused work environment. Client relations/Customer satisfaction is of utmost importance within our company.
The successful candidate will play a critical role in ensuring operational excellence, working with the operational staff, and maintaining the highest standards of service to our retail, contractor, and wholesale clients.
Duties
- retail store and yard operations, including the loading and unloading of materials using forklifts.
- Execute day to day retail and wholesale transactions efficiently.
- order picking processes to ensure accuracy and efficiency in fulfilling customer orders.

- Maintain a clean and organized storefront and yard environment to promote safety and productivity.
- Maintain inventory levels using a warehouse management system to track stock movements, regular inventory level counts and adjustments.
- Coordinate with owners to ensure timely shipping and receiving of goods.
- Conduct regular inspections of equipment to ensure proper functioning and safety compliance.
- Train and mentor summer staff on best practices for heavy equipment operation and warehouse procedures.
- Perform heavy lifting as required during loading and unloading activities.
- Work with owners to streamline operations and improve overall efficiency.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in a lumber yard, building materials, or related industry.
- Strong knowledge of specialty lumber products (cedar, hardwoods, timbers, and custom milling).
- Proven skills with the ability to motivate and develop a team.
- Excellent organizational and communication abilities.
- Proficiency in inventory management systems, scheduling tools, and Microsoft Office.
- Forklift and equipment operation experience; safety certifications are an asset.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting consistently throughout the workday is essential for this role.
- Candidates should possess a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced setting.
