About Us
Travelodge by Wyndham Thunder Bay is a 93-room hotel committed to providing a safe, comfortable, and welcoming experience for our guests. We are seeking a dependable, hands-on Hotel Maintenance Technician to join our team and help maintain our guest rooms, public spaces, equipment, and overall property condition.
This position reports directly to the General Manager and works closely with other hotel departments to ensure the property is maintained to a high standard.
Position Summary
The Hotel Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing preventative maintenance, repairs, troubleshooting, renovations, and general property upkeep throughout the hotel. The successful candidate will be a self-starter who can work independently, prioritize tasks effectively, and respond quickly to operational needs.
This role requires a strong understanding of building maintenance systems and the ability to complete a variety of repair and improvement projects while maintaining a high level of professionalism and attention to detail.
Key Responsibilities
Guest Room Maintenance
- Repair and maintain guest room fixtures, furniture, doors, locks, windows, flooring, and finishes
- Complete drywall repairs, patching, painting, and minor carpentry projects
- Troubleshoot and repair plumbing issues including faucets, toilets, sinks, drains, and water lines
- Diagnose and repair minor electrical issues including outlets, switches, lighting, and fixtures
- Complete preventative maintenance inspections and address deficiencies proactively
- Ensure guest rooms are maintained to brand standards
Building and Property Maintenance
- Perform general repairs throughout the hotel
- Maintain public areas, hallways, meeting spaces, exterior areas, and back-of-house spaces
- Assist with renovation projects and room refresh programs
- Monitor and maintain hotel equipment and mechanical systems
- Perform seasonal property maintenance and inspections
- Assist with snow removal, salting, exterior cleanliness, and property appearance when required
Preventative Maintenance
- Conduct routine inspections of guest rooms and hotel facilities
- Identify maintenance concerns before they become guest issues
- Maintain accurate maintenance logs and records
- Follow preventative maintenance schedules and work orders
Safety and Compliance
- Follow all company safety policies and procedures
- Ensure work is completed safely and professionally
- Report hazards, deficiencies, and safety concerns immediately
- Assist during emergency situations as required
Teamwork and Communication
- Communicate effectively with management and team members
- Provide regular updates on assigned projects and repairs
- Respond promptly to maintenance requests from hotel departments
- Maintain a professional and positive attitude while working with guests and employees
Qualifications
- Previous hotel maintenance experience preferred
- Experience in building maintenance, property maintenance, construction, or a related trade is required
- Strong knowledge of plumbing, electrical, drywall, painting, carpentry, and general repairs
- Ability to troubleshoot and solve maintenance issues independently
- Experience using power tools and maintenance equipment safely
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment
- Valid driver's license considered an asset
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical work throughout the shift
