About Econo Gas:
Econo Gas is a growing wholesale distributor of diesel fuel and gasoline products serving customers across Canada. We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Senior Accountant to join our finance team.
The ideal candidate is a designated CPA (or in the final stage of obtaining their CPA designation) with strong accounting knowledge, excellent analytical skills, and experience managing the full accounting cycle. This position offers the opportunity to contribute beyond traditional accounting by supporting process improvements, automation initiatives, and business system enhancements.
Position Summary
Reporting to the Senior Controller, the Senior Accountant will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, performing monthly reconciliations, preparing payroll, completing regulatory filings, and supporting financial reporting and audit activities. The successful candidate will also play an important role in improving accounting processes and assisting with system implementation and automation projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate and complete financial records on a timely basis.
- Download, validate, import, and reconcile financial data from multiple systems.
- Prepare monthly reconciliations, including:
- Bank accounts
- Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable
- Inventory
- Gross Margin Analysis
- HST/GST and Provincial Fuel Taxes (PRT)
- General Ledger to Subledger reconciliations
- Process employee payroll and maintain payroll records.
- Prepare and file provincial and federal tax returns and other regulatory filings.
- Assist with monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial reporting.
- Support external auditors, government audits, and regulatory reviews.
- Assist with business process improvements, accounting system enhancements, and automation initiatives.
- Investigate and resolve accounting discrepancies, system issues, and data import errors.
- Resolve customer billing and supplier payment issues.
- Provide accounting support and information to the Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable teams.
- Participate in special projects and other business initiatives as required.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field.
- CPA designation, or actively pursuing the final stage of the CPA program.
- Minimum 3–5 years of progressive accounting experience managing the full accounting cycle.
- Strong understanding of financial reporting, reconciliations, and internal controls.
- Experience with payroll processing and government remittances.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a team.
Preferred
- French reading and writing skills.
- Experience with ERP/accounting software and automated financial systems.
- Experience implementing or improving accounting processes and business systems.

Pay: $75,000.00-$85,000.00 per year
