Position Summary
The Kamloops Sexual Assault Counselling Centre (KSACC) is looking to hire an Anti-Violence Counsellor, who will provide counselling and support services to adults of all genders who have experienced sexual assault, violence/abuse in relationships, and/or childhood sexual abuse. This position is based in KSACC’s Kamloops office.
Schedule and Compensation
This is a part-time, continuing position of 16 hours per week. The wage of $36.41/hour is based on a Board approved wage grid, and increases based on time worked for the Agency.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct client assessment and determine program suitability. Refer clients to appropriate external programs as required.
- Develop and implement counselling treatment plans and goals necessary to meet client needs. Monitor and evaluate client progress and adjust goals accordingly.
- Participate in case management with KSACC’s Clinical Supervisor and Programs Manager to ensure excellence in practice.
- Conduct consistent file management including the maintenance of client information, forms related to privacy and confidentiality, client progress notes and other items related to file management.
- Maintain statistics that adhere to funder and agency requirements.
- Conduct referrals and/or advocacy with other community service providers as necessary.
- Provide crisis intervention as required.
- Actively promote the program to other service providers and the community at large.
- Collaborate with community agencies when necessary to provide a holistic support plan.
- Advocate for clients when necessary.
- Provide psychoeducational material as necessary.
- Understand MCFD reporting procedures
- Participate in Clinical Supervision, staff meetings, job evaluation and other Agency-related forms of supervision and participation as required.
- Perform other related duties as required by the Agency Coordinator and Programs Manager.
Qualifications Required
- Degree in psychology, social work, counselling or related field. Masters preferred.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in the area of domestic violence or related trauma-informed practice
- Criminal record check

- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of feminist practice and counselling;
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of sexualized violence;
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of trauma-informed practice;
- Demonstrated knowledge of sexual exploitation and offender patterns;
- Demonstrated knowledge of relevant assessment and counselling techniques used with survivors of sexual violence;
- Knowledge of the history and colonization of Indigenous people and the relevance to current issues faced by individuals, families and communities.
- Capacity to monitor and evaluate client progress;
- Direct program delivery experience in the community service sector with a demonstrated working knowledge of community-based programs;
- Knowledge of relevant legislation and policy;
- Capacity to work with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds;
- Excellent interpersonal skills;
- Excellent written and communication skills;
- Excellent computer skills and comfort using video conferencing technology;
- Ability to maintain appropriate files and statistics;
- Demonstrated capacity to prioritize workload;
- Demonstrated capacity to adhere to privacy and confidentiality legislation and guidelines
- Ability to work in a team environment;
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
