This is an excellent opportunity for a Big 4 Manager looking to move into industry and join a growing Canadian mining company. The role spans financial reporting, IFRS compliance, internal controls, and month-end close within a dynamic and collaborative environment, reporting to an experienced and reputable CFO.
A well-funded Canadian public mining company focused on its precious metals project located in British Columbia. The organization is currently in a key phase of advancement as it works towards completing its ongoing feasibility study for the project.
Based out of the corporate office in downtown Vancouver, the Controller will report to the Chief Financial Officer and provide leadership and direction in all areas of accounting, including responsibility for timely and accurate financial reporting. This is an exciting time to join the company as significant growth plans are in place, including completing the ongoing feasibility study for its precious metals mining project.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepare publicly filed quarterly and annual financial statements in accordance with IFRS.
- Support the preparation of other continuous disclosure documents, such as the MD&A, Extractive Sector Transparency Measures Act reports and Management Information Circular.
- Identify and resolve complex IFRS technical accounting issues.
- Review new accounting pronouncements that may affect the company and ensure compliance.
- Prepare financial and non-financial information for management, the Board of Directors and external parties.
- Manage full cycle accounting, including the accounts payable and payroll functions.
- Review the work of accounting staff.
- Prepare health and safety reporting.
- Assist with the budgeting and forecasting process, including budget versus actuals analysis.
- Manage the preparation of income tax filings and other tax compliance matters using the assistance of external tax advisers.
- Design and maintain proper accounting cycles and internal controls.
- Coordinate external audit work with auditors, including quarterly reviews.
- Manage ad hoc projects as delegated.
- Professional CPA accounting designation, Big 4 experience preferred.
- 4+ years of experience, including time spent leading a team.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills.
- Exceptional written and oral communication skills.
- Public practice experience is preferred, with experience in the mining industry being an asset.
- Strong knowledge of IFRS and continuous disclosure requirements for Canadian public companies.
- Strong analytical abilities and experience with budgeting, forecasting and analysis.
- Solid knowledge of control environments and ability to design, review and improve processes and controls.
- Knowledge of Canadian taxation laws.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and accounting systems experience.
Competitive base salary of $140,000–$150,000, commensurate with experience, along with eligibility for STIP and LTIP, employer-paid benefits, and 4 weeks vacation.
Vancouver, B.C.
Downtown office, with onsite presence expected daily, with flexibility to work remotely from time to time on Fridays.
