Academic Coordinator – Middle & High School
Full-Time Position
Our Islamic School is seeking a committed and capable Academic Coordinator for Middle and High School who possesses a strong Islamic foundation, sound academic experience, and a genuine passion for developing both teachers and students.
The Academic Coordinator will work closely with school leadership, teachers, guidance staff, students, and parents to maintain high academic standards while advancing the school’s Islamic mission and vision.
Key Responsibilities
Academic Quality and Standards
- Maintain consistent academic expectations across Middle and High School.
- Support curriculum planning, instructional delivery, assessments, report cards, and academic documentation.
- Ensure that High School courses align with Ontario curriculum and OSSD requirements.
- Review student achievement data and identify areas requiring intervention or improvement.
- Help establish clear, measurable academic goals for teachers, departments, and students.
Teacher Development and Instructional Support
- Regularly observe classrooms and provide constructive, respectful, and practical feedback.
- Assist teachers in moving beyond routine teaching methods and reaching their full professional potential.
- Support teachers in implementing Universal Design for Learning (UDL), differentiated instruction, project-based learning, and effective assessment practices.
- Encourage innovative lessons, meaningful classroom activities, collaboration, inquiry, and real-world learning.
- Provide teachers with resources, strategies, coaching, and follow-up support.
- Help new and developing teachers maintain the school’s instructional standards.
Student Engagement and Support
- Build positive and respectful relationships with students.
- Create structured opportunities to listen to students’ academic experiences, challenges, and suggestions.
- Work collaboratively with teachers to address student disengagement, learning gaps, classroom concerns, and academic behaviour.
- Support students in developing responsibility, resilience, discipline, confidence, and a genuine love of learning.
- Ensure that student voice is heard while maintaining proper Islamic manners, boundaries, and respect for teachers.
Islamic Mission and School Culture
- Model excellent Islamic character, professionalism, sincerity, accountability, and respectful communication.
- Help teachers connect Islamic values with classroom learning and student development.
- Promote an environment in which academic excellence and spiritual growth strengthen one another.
- Support students in understanding that seeking knowledge, respecting parents and teachers, fulfilling responsibilities, and striving for excellence are part of their Islamic identity.
- Ensure that school programs and academic practices remain aligned with Al-Manarat’s mission and vision.
Collaboration and School Improvement
- Work closely with the Principal, Vice Principal, Guidance Counsellor, department leads, and administration.
- Facilitate academic meetings, professional development, collaborative planning, and follow-up.
- Communicate professionally with parents regarding academic expectations, progress, concerns, and improvement plans.
- Assist with student transitions, course planning, intervention plans, enrichment opportunities, competitions, clubs, and academic events.
- Contribute actively to the school improvement plan and help ensure that agreed actions are implemented consistently.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Education or a closely related academic field.
- Ontario teaching experience or strong familiarity with the Ontario curriculum is highly preferred.
- Understanding of Middle School programming, secondary-school credits, assessment practices, and OSSD requirements.
- Demonstrated experience in instructional leadership, teacher coaching, curriculum coordination, or academic administration.
- Strong understanding of UDL, differentiated instruction, assessment for learning, classroom engagement, and innovative teaching practices.
- Strong Islamic knowledge, character, and commitment to working within the values of an Islamic school.
- Excellent communication, organization, documentation, conflict-resolution, and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to provide clear feedback while maintaining trust, dignity, and professional relationships.
- Ability to take initiative, follow through consistently, and hold individuals accountable with wisdom and fairness.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is not limited to managing schedules and paperwork. They are an instructional leader who is visible in classrooms, approachable to students, supportive of teachers, attentive to academic data, and committed to continuous improvement.
They should be able to respectfully challenge teachers to grow, help students overcome barriers, introduce effective and innovative academic practices, and unite the Middle and High School teams around Al-Manarat’s mission of developing knowledgeable, responsible, confident, and spiritually grounded young Muslims.
