Job Summary:
GDI Ainsworth is looking for an Electrical Estimator and Project Manager to join the growing BC team. The Electrical Estimator and Project Manager will be responsible for responding to tenders, bid request or Requests for Quotation (RFQs) in the industrial, commercial and institutional market by developing accurate, complete and competitive estimates, while also managing awarded work from hand-off through to completion. Once work is secured, this position will lead project planning, procurement coordination, scheduling, cost control, change management, client communication, and close-out activities to help ensure projects are delivered safely, professionally and profitably.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct a thorough review of specifications, drawings, addenda and tender documents.
- Develop accurate material take-offs, labour take-offs, equipment requirements and subcontractor scopes.
- Coordinate pricing packages with suppliers, subcontractors, owners, consultants, designers and architects for tenders, bid requests and RFQs.
- Review estimates with the Regional Manager, Service Manager, Foreman and/or other stakeholders to confirm labour, material, equipment, subcontracting costs, scope assumptions and exclusions.
- Preparing tenders by quantifying, organizing and tabulating all material, equipment, labour, and subcontract costs needed to complete the project.
- Manage awarded electrical projects through planning, procurement, execution, monitoring, change management, close-out and turnover.
- Coordinate with field teams, foremen, suppliers, subcontractors, consultants, clients and internal departments to maintain project schedule, budget, quality and safety expectations.
- Prepare and manage project documentation including purchase requests, submittals, RFIs, change notices, change orders, meeting notes, progress claims, close-out documents and deficiency tracking.
- Monitor project financial performance, including committed costs, labour productivity, change orders, billing status, forecast at completion and gross margin expectations.
- Participate in site reviews, tender reviews, project meetings, operational meetings, project closing meetings and sector meetings as required.
- Review tender closing documents and obtain signed/sealed, bonding/insurance certificates, etc..
- Track all bids, proposals in excel sheet and submit to Project Admin for entry into the CRM Tool.
- Utilize estimating software in the estimating function. Work to enhance it, streamline, improve, etc. with the software provider in its functioning for Ainsworth.

- Perform all job functions in a safe and healthful manner, abiding by and in accordance with all applicable Health, Safety and Environmental company policies and government legislation/regulations.
- Adhere to the Company’s Quality System operating procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned by Management.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 5 years of electrical estimating, electrical project coordination and/or electrical project management experience in the ICI market.
- High school graduate; post-secondary education in electrical technology, construction management or a related field is considered an asset.
- Electrical trade certificate, Red Seal endorsement, FSR designation or equivalent field experience would be considered a strong asset.
- Proficiency with Accubid, Excel, Word, Outlook and other estimating/project management tools.
- Strong understanding of electrical drawings, specifications, tendering procedures, procurement processes, change management and construction sequencing.
- Demonstrated ability to manage budgets, schedules, labour planning, subcontractors, suppliers and client communications.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbal, with clients, consultants, subcontractors, suppliers, field teams and internal stakeholders.
- Proven ability to multi-task, prioritize competing demands and meet strict deadlines.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify scope gaps, exclusions, risks and opportunities.
The salary range is $95,000 - $130,000 per year. Actual salaries will vary based on factors such as education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as alignment with market data. The base salary is just one component of Ainsworth’s total compensation package, which also includes additional rewards and benefits such as short-term incentives and health insurance, among others.
