Heavy Equipment Operator - Civil
Penn-co Construction is a leading construction company that is looking for Heavy Equipment Operators – Civil to join our team in remote northern locations.
Job Duties
- Complete pre-shift equipment inspections and perform basic servicing, including checking fluid levels, fueling, greasing, and cleaning equipment.
- Operate heavy equipment safely and efficiently while preventing damage to equipment, materials, utilities, and surrounding structures.
- Perform rough and finish grading using a variety of equipment, including excavators, skid steers, loaders, dozers, and other heavy equipment.
- Work safely in and around trenches, excavations, and active construction sites.
- Communicate effectively and working safely in close proximity with ground personnel, truck drivers, and other operators using hand signals, eye contact, and radio communication as required.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and site-specific requirements.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Previous experience operating heavy equipment in civil construction.
- Ability to safely operate equipment on uneven, rough, sloped, loose, compacted, and frozen ground conditions.
- Experience in excavating in blasted bedrock conditions, along with highly saturated conditions like peat moss and muskeg.
- Experience working around trailers, trucks, buildings, utilities, and other obstacles with precision.
- Understanding of trenching, excavation safety, and working safely in confined or tight work areas.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
- Ability to work independently while contributing positively to a team environment.
- Self-motivated with strong time management skills and the ability to meet project deadlines.
- Heavy equipment operator certification is considered an asset.
- Knowledge of basic equipment maintenance and daily servicing requirements.
Working Conditions
- Extended periods of sitting while operating heavy equipment.
- Working night shift
- Outdoor work in a variety of weather conditions.
- Physically demanding construction environment.
- Travel to remote project locations is required.
