OVERVIEW
apetito is currently looking for a Product Development Technician. This role offers the right candidate the opportunity to contribute and assist within the Product Development team.
Reporting to the Product Development Manager, the Product Development Technician will work alongside the other Product Development team members, to assist in sample creation, collecting of information and setting up product cuttings. The successful candidate will be a self-motivated individual with culinary and product development experience.
apetito and Heart to Home Meals aims to grow significantly in the coming years and this position will have an important role to support this growth by accelerating ongoing projects.
Development Technician
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
· Sample preparation, including cooking and reheating.
· Coordinating and collecting supplier samples.
· Organizing presentations and sensory evaluations with stakeholders.
· Support Development Chef with collecting and organizing supplier information.
· Manage own inventory of ingredients within test kitchen by collecting materials.
· Communicate with Regulatory and QA to provide specifications on finished supplier products.
· Maintain an organized and sanitized work area in the test kitchen.
· Perform other tasks as assigned by Product Development Manager
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Essential
- Solid foundation in the culinary arts
- Post-secondary education in Food Science, Nutrition or similar
- Understanding of the Product Development process
- Knowledge of food safety, regulations, HACCP
- Ability to cook with and consume all types of ingredients (fruits, vegetables, dairy, chicken, beef, pork, fish, seafood, rice, pasta etc.)
- Ability to multitask and work on multiple projects simultaneously
- Valid Ontario driver’s license and access to vehicle
- Must have strong knowledge of food product development techniques, and food ingredient functionality
Desirable
- Experience working in Product Development, preferably with consumer packaged or food service packaged products like soup, sauces and meals
- Ability to demonstrate use of problem-solving skills within a team environment
- Experience of working within cross functional teams and able to demonstrate teamwork
- Comfortable with presenting in front of groups

Pay: $50,000.00-$60,000.00 per year
