Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced CNC Machinist to lead our second-shift production team. This position combines hands-on machining with shift leadership and requires someone who can work independently, make sound decisions, and resolve production issues without direct supervision.
The second shift is primarily staffed by CNC Machine Operators, so the Lead Hand/Machinist will act as the senior technical resource on the floor. In addition to setting up and operating CNC equipment, this hire will program selected parts, manufacture prototypes, troubleshoot machining and quality issues, and provide direction to the operators working on the shift.
Second Shift Schedule is Monday-Thursday, 3:30pm-1:30am
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and support CNC Machine Operators during the second shift
- Set up and operate CNC milling and/or turning equipment
- Program new or existing parts using CAM software
- Manufacture prototypes, first-off parts, and low-volume production components
- Troubleshoot machining, tooling, programming, setup, and quality issues independently
- Make appropriate adjustments to offsets, cutting parameters, tooling, and programs
- Review drawings, specifications, setup sheets, and inspection requirements
- Inspect parts using standard measuring equipment and confirm compliance with drawing requirements
- Assist operators with machine alarms, tool failures, dimensional issues, and production interruptions
- Assign or prioritize work based on the production schedule and available resources
- Confirm that operators are following approved setup, inspection, safety, and documentation requirements
- Escalate significant quality, equipment, or production issues when required
- Maintain clear shift notes and communicate outstanding issues to the day-shift team
- Support continuous improvement of machining processes, cycle times, tooling, and work instructions
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
Qualifications
- Minimum of 3 years of CNC machining experience
- Strong experience setting up and operating CNC machines
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, tolerances, and GD&T
- Experience programming CNC machine tools using CAM software
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Proficiency with standard inspection equipment, including micrometers, calipers, height gauges, bore gauges, and indicators
- Ability to work independently and make practical production decisions
- Strong communication skills and the ability to provide clear direction to machine operators
- Experience with prototype, low-volume, or high-mix machining is preferred
- Previous lead hand, supervisory, or mentoring experience is an asset
- Experience machining aluminum, stainless steel, and copper

Pay: $30.00-$45.00 per hour
