National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO)
A locally owned concrete formwork company is recruiting an experienced and certified National Construction Safety Officer. The company has over 10 years’ experience in providing commercial formwork in the Okanagan and is committed to creating a team of construction professionals who value safety as a cornerstone of “good business”. This role reports to a manager and has a competitive remuneration package.
Job Duties:
- Promote a safe, positive, and respectful safety culture
- Maintain a working knowledge of current OH&S legislation, Federal and Provincial laws as well as company standards and policies
- Ensure construction sites are set up for effective safety
- Ensure workers are trained and qualified for the tasks they do
- Support site leadership by conducting inspections, training workshops, developing and maintaining safe work practices and procedures
- Ensure safety software is being used by all workers and is maintained
- Provide safety leadership to the site leaders in the form of mentoring, training, education and field observations
- Demonstrate a proactive approach to hazard recognition, task analysis, and controls
- Investigate incidents, near misses, and hazardous conditions
- Complete incident causation analysis
- Develop, implement, and follow up on corrective actions
- Participate in toolbox meetings, weekly safety meetings, and task demonstrations
- Maintain the company safety program
- Proactively identify leading indicators and trends in the field and communicate the same back to the field and company management
- Investigate incidents and near misses with supervision and other key stakeholders - - general contractors, other trades, safety authorities, etc.
- Maintain documentation control for all safety related items
Role Details:
- Part Time – 20 hours/week to start

Job Requirements:
· Possess a valid NCSO designation in good standing
- Minimum of Valid Class 5 Drivers License
- Minimum of 3 years as a Safety Officer in commercial construction, including sites with tower cranes
- Excellent knowledge of workplace safety requirements and solutions in the construction industry
- Possess a can-do, positive attitude, buoyed by humility and the ability to enhance others’ safety attitudes and behaviours
- Knowledge of WorkSafe BC requirements, website use, and Return-to-Work programming
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills – not condescending
- Able to perform the role in all weather conditions
- Must be safety orientated, self-motivated and able to work effectively with all project stakeholders
- Have exceptional organizational skills
- Self-Disciplined
- Intermediate computers skills – MS Office, (Sitemax, Salus would be assets)
Nice-to-have:
· Train-the-trainer for fall protection, respirator fit testing, scissor lift, elevated work platform
· Project coordination skills & experience for construction projects, including contract language, logistics and asset management
Pay: From $35.00 per hour
