The Opportunity
As Lawson continues to expand, we are seeking a skilled and motivated Project Manager to join our team in Edmonton, Alberta. In this role, you will oversee projects throughout Western Saskatchewan, Alberta, NWT, and Yukon, supporting work across a diverse range of sectors including pipeline, municipal, civil, heavy industrial, and power distribution.

You will play a key role in driving project success through effective planning, resource management, client relationship development, and team leadership.
What You’ll Do
Reporting directly to the Western Regional Manager, you will:
- Lead the full lifecycle of projects, including planning, scheduling, budgeting, documentation, and resource allocation to ensure successful execution.
- Build and maintain strong, trusted relationships with current and prospective clients to support long-term partnerships and future opportunities.
- Provide leadership, coaching, and mentorship to direct reports, including performance management, ongoing development, conflict resolution, and team support.
- Coordinate project timelines and workflows while overseeing daily field and project activities to ensure deliverables are completed safely, accurately, on time, and to the highest quality standards.
- Champion initiatives that enhance safety, efficiency, accuracy, and overall quality of work, while supporting the successful implementation of new processes and technologies.
- Facilitate on-the-job training and continuous learning opportunities to help team members stay current with industry practices, tools, and surveying methodologies.
- Develop and maintain systems for tracking project progress, deliverables, contract requirements, and key performance metrics for internal and external stakeholders.
- Communicate proactively with clients and project partners to identify challenges, resolve issues effectively, and ensure a high level of client satisfaction.
- Support field operations as needed by conducting a range of surveys, including pipeline, topographic, volumetric, preliminary planning, design, control, and quality assurance surveys.
What You Bring
The ideal candidate will have:
- Post-secondary education in Surveying, Geomatics, Leadership, or Project Management. An equivalent combination of education and experience may also be considered.
- A minimum of 7 years of surveying experience, including at least 4 years in a supervisory role leading a survey field crew.
- At least 2 years of project management experience.
- Experience with drafting and drafting standards.
- Proven leadership skills with the ability to motivate, support, and develop high-performing teams.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to build effective working relationships with colleagues, clients, and contractors.
- A proactive, self-directed approach with the ability to anticipate needs and take initiative.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- A strong technical understanding of surveying theory, equipment, and field practices, including:
- Robotic total stations
- Electronic field books
- Precision verticality and leveling instruments
- RTK/GPS systems
- Laser alignment equipment
- Other modern surveying technologies
- Advanced knowledge of engineering drawings, specifications, construction methods, and industry standards.
- Understanding of drafting principles and engineering standards.
- Advanced knowledge of survey control networks, monuments, survey computations (including transformations), and high-level geomatics.
- Proficiency with Trimble software, AutoCAD Civil 3D, and Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, and Word). Knowledge of project management software is considered an asset.
- A strong work ethic, adaptability, and the ability to manage competing priorities effectively.
- A valid driver’s license.
