Position Overview:
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Carpenter to join our team. The ideal candidate shares our values of teamwork, respect, collaboration, and craftsmanship, and takes pride in delivering exceptional quality at every stage of construction. This role requires a well-rounded carpenter who is comfortable working through all phases of residential construction, from foundations and framing to building envelope installation and interior finishing.
The successful candidate has a strong attention to detail, excellent problem-solving and interpersonal skills, and a commitment to producing high-quality work. They are confident working independently as well as collaboratively with project managers, subcontractors, and fellow team members. A willingness to share knowledge, mentor carpenter's assistants, and contribute to a positive, professional work environment is essential.
Responsibilities:
Technical Execution:
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and construction specifications.
- Construct and install concrete formwork and manage foundation construction.
- Layout and build structural framing, including floors, walls, roofs, and engineered floor and roof systems.
- Construct garages, additions, and other residential structures.
- Build decks, stairs, sheds and other outdoor living structures.
- Install windows, exterior doors, weather barriers, siding, soffit, fascia, and other building envelope components.
- Complete renovations and structural modifications.
- Perform interior carpentry including trim, doors, staircases, millwork and other finishing work.
- Install flooring and other finish materials as required.
- Apply caulking, sealants, and weatherproofing materials.
- Perform other related duties, including minor duties of other trades where certification is not required, and the work does not exceed own limitations.
- Perform advanced carpentry tasks such as custom woodworking, finishing, and detailing.
- Operate hand tools, power tools, and construction equipment safely and efficiently.
- Perform other carpentry-related duties as assigned.
Material Handling:
- Load, unload, and transport materials safely.
- Plan and organize materials required for daily tasks.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe worksite.
- Protect materials and completed work from damage.
Site Preparation and Cleanup:
- Maintain a good organization of material.
- Prepare the worksite for construction activities, ensuring it is clean and safe.
Safety and Compliance:
- Follow all workplace safety regulations and company policies.
- Ensure all tools are in good working order and safe to operate.
- Adhere to all safety guidelines, regulations, and best practices to prevent accidents and injuries.
- Use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required and report any safety hazards.
Team Collaboration:
- Work closely with Project Manager and other team members to meet project goals.
- Take feedback constructively and implement it to improve performance.
- Coordinate with other tradespeople and team members to maintain project workflow.
- Provide guidance or assistance to less-experienced team members as needed.
- Collaborate effectively in a positive construction fashion while working in the best interest of the project as a whole with other team members, including other tradespeople and subcontractors.
- Maintain a professional and courteous attitude when interacting with clients and addressing their questions or concerns.
- Respect and respond to direction given by your supervisor.
Quality Control:
- Ensure high standards of workmanship and efficiency to ensure that services meet or exceed expectations.
Administrative Duties:
- Check off completed tasks assigned to you in CoConstruct.
- Upload Job Log & Photos in CoConstruct of work progress
Qualifications:
- Minimum 5 years of residential carpentry experience.
- Journeyperson Carpenter certification or Registered Apprentice is considered an asset.
- Extensive experience with:
- Foundations and concrete formwork
- Structural framing
- Deck and outdoor structure construction
- Building envelope systems
- Interior finishing
- Residential renovations and additions
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and construction drawings.
- Strong understanding of residential construction practices and the Ontario Building Code.
- Proficient with hand tools, power tools, and construction equipment.
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills.
- High attention to detail and commitment to quality craftsmanship.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Physically capable of performing demanding construction work in various weather conditions.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
