Working with the Town of Newmarket’s Recreation and Culture Team, means the opportunity to make a difference and connect with your community! Working in Recreation means the start of something special, gaining valuable work experience and learning new skills. The Successful Candidate Will:
1. Lead introductory sports programs such as Badminton, Basketball, Volleyball, Soccer, etc.
2. Greet participants and ensures attendance is taken at each class and all paperwork is handed in promptly on the last day of the session.
3. Deliver a pre-designed curriculum in an engaging, inclusive and safe manner.
4. Use excellent customer service skills to resolve conflicts or concerns from program participants and the public, or refer to the appropriate staff.
5. Set up and tear down of all equipment. Reports any facility or equipment requests or concerns.
6. Communicate any issues with respect to health and safety concerns, attendance, participants, equipment, inventory, facility spaces.
7. Respond to emergency situations including performing minor first aid and/or arranging for medical assistance.
8. Perform other duties as assigned in accordance with departmental guidelines and corporate objectives.

1. Be an advocate for play and the importance of physical activity for all ages to develop motor, social and cognitive skills in participants.
2. Experience working with children and adults in a recreation setting.
3. Sports background and previous coaching experience is an asset.
4. Excellent customer service, communication, leadership, and organizational skills and sensitivity to interact with a diversity of patrons, parents, and staff in a courteous and efficient manner.
5. Current Standard First Aid and CPR-C certification required.
6. Current High Five Principles of Healthy Child Development and High Five Sport certifications required (Preschool-Youth classes).
7. Be available to work flexible hours including daytime, evenings, weekends and holidays.
8. Due to the nature of the contacts of this position a Police Vulnerable Sector Check satisfactory to the Town is required.
Please Note: Certifications are not required at time of application but must be obtained prior to job commencement. The Town of Newmarket may offer opportunities for certification.
Disclaimer: Candidates whose Standard First Aid certification expires after June 22, 2026 must renew their certification through a WSIB-approved provider and obtain the new Intermediate First Aid with CPR-C certification at candidates own cost.
