What is the Opportunity?
Aecon’s Corporate teams play a critical role in enabling success of Aecon’s operating sectors and major infrastructure projects across North America and internationally. Through multidisciplinary expertise, functional services and strategic partnership– our teams collaborate with executive leadership, operations, and project teams in a dynamic, matrixed environment to solve complex challenges and drive results.
The Solution Architect will design, own, and govern end‑to‑end technology solutions that enable business outcomes across Aecon’s operations. This role is accountable for translating business needs into scalable, secure, and well‑governed solutions, ensuring alignment with enterprise standards, cloud strategy, and long‑term business value.
The Solution Architect will work closely with business stakeholders, product owners, delivery teams, and enterprise architecture to define solution direction, guide implementation, and ensure successful adoption.
What You'll Do Here:
Solution Design & Ownership
Own the end‑to‑end solution design for assigned initiatives, from concept through delivery and operational handover
Partner with business stakeholders to understand business problems, processes, and objectives, and translate them into practical, value‑driven solutions
Define business, application, data, integration, security, and infrastructure architecture for solutions
Ensure solutions are scalable, resilient, secure, and aligned with Aecon’s enterprise architecture principles
Cloud & Technology Architecture
Design cloud‑based and hybrid solutions leveraging:
AWS
Microsoft Azure
SAP landscapes (e.g., S/4HANA, SAP BTP, SAP‑integrated ecosystems)
PaaS and low‑code platforms, including Microsoft Power Platform (Power Apps, Power Automate, Power Pages, Dataverse)
Select appropriate architectural patterns (e.g., event‑driven, API‑led, microservices, SaaS integrations)
Guide delivery teams on cloud‑native design, cost optimization, security, and operational best practices
Ensure proper use of IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS offerings where appropriate
Governance & Assurance
Participate in architecture review and governance forums to ensure solution compliance with Aecon standards
Evaluate solution options, trade‑offs, risks, and constraints, and clearly communicate recommendations to technical and non‑technical audiences
Produce and maintain architecture documentation, diagrams, and decision records
Delivery & Collaboration
Work closely with delivery teams (product, project managers, developers, vendors) to ensure architectural intent is implemented correctly
Provide ongoing architectural guidance during design, build, testing, and deployment
Support integration of solutions into the broader Aecon technology landscape
What You Bring to the Team:
7+ years of experience in IT, including solution architecture or senior technical design roles
Proven experience designing and owning enterprise or large‑scale business solutions
Hands‑on experience with AWS and/or Microsoft Azure in production environments
Experience working closely with business stakeholders, not just technology teams
Experience evaluating and integrating third party/vendor solutions
Strong understanding of:
Cloud architecture (AWS, Azure)
Application architecture (custom, packaged, SaaS)
PaaS and low-code solution design and governance
Integration patterns (APIs, event, middleware)
Data architecture concepts
Security and identity principles
Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non‑technical audiences
Ability to influence without authority and drive architectural decisions collaboratively
Structured problem‑solver with a pragmatic, business‑first mindset
Nice to Have:
Experience in construction, engineering, infrastructure, or capital‑intensive industries
Familiarity with enterprise platforms such as ERP, construction project management, or field systems
Experience working within formal architecture governance or review boards
Relevant certifications (AWS, Azure, SAP, Power Platform)

The expected salary range for this opportunity is $95,000 - $120,000 per year
Individual pay is determined based on several factors, including work location, education, experience, unique skills and job conditions. Other considerations may include certifications, specialized training, and the complexity or scope of the role.
