Compliance & Safety Associate

Role Profile
A Compliance and Safety Associate (Health & Safety) protect workers and minimizes workplace risks. They enforce occupational health and safety (OHS) legislation, conduct facility audits, investigate workplace incidents, and develop safety training programs to ensure full organizational compliance. This position is a swing shift on a two-week rotation – days and afternoons.
Role Responsibilities

Inspections: Conduct daily and weekly floor walkthroughs to identify potential hazards and ensure adherence to safety protocols (e.g., LOTO, machine guarding, and hazardous material handling).

Incident Investigations: Lead or assist in investigating workplace incidents, injuries, or near-misses; compile detailed reports and track corrective actions.

PPE Enforcement: Ensure appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is worn and maintained across the facility.

JHSC Support: Actively support and coordinate Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) meetings and follow-up activities.

Audits & Walkthroughs: Assist during internal and external regulatory audits, ensuring requested documentation is readily available.

CAPA Implementation: Assist operations teams with Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA) and lead investigations for out-of-specification incidents.

Training Coordination: Work with training personnel to deliver safety orientations, regulatory updates, and ongoing compliance training for new and existing staff, as well as visitors & contractors as needed.

Documentation: Maintain accurate, auditable safety and compliance logs, including training records, inspection findings, and incident logs
Requirements:
Education: College Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field is considered an asset.
Experience: <1 year of relevant practical experience in manufacturing, food, or pharmaceutical/GMP environment. Cannabis experience is considered an asset.
Knowledge: Good understanding of provincial or regional health and safety legislation (e.g., Occupational Health and Safety Act) for agricultural, manufacturing and/or construction sectors, & Cannabis Act legislation
Skills: Strong analytical problem-solving, attention to detail, and proficiency in MS Office.
Communication: Excellent interpersonal skills required to effectively communicate safety protocols across all levels of the workforce
