Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and hardworking Textile Production Technician to join our client's family-owned agricultural business and fiber mill. The ideal candidate will have a passion for working with animals and a strong commitment to sustainable agricultural practices. This role involves hands-on work. It involves handling wool that has been sheared from sheep. The farm hand will play a crucial role in ensuring the productivity and efficiency of farm operations.
Responsibilities
- Wool handling procedures including, but not limited to: Washing, Skirting, Picking, Carding, Spinning, Weaving)
- Operating Hand and Power equipment (such as, cordless/240v/110V/gasoline) operation.
- Use all tools, plant and equipment for its intended purpose. Refer to supplied operations manual.
- Farm Yard/Sheds/Paddock hygiene procedures (fallen branches, wire, string, scrap, weeds)
- Communicate effectively on all matters with Management, Staff and Contractors
- Cleaning duties of fibre-mill and residence
- Operate and maintain farm equipment and tools, ensuring all equipment is in good working condition.
- Manage livestock care, care of the sheep, including feeding, health monitoring, and maintenance.
- Use low stress livestock handling practises and techniques.
- Conduct regular inspections of to identify health needs, diseases, or other issues.
- Operate farm machinery and equipment responsibly and conscientiously, with care so as not to cause unnecessary damage or ware.
- Assist in the implementation of sustainable farming practices
- Maintain accurate records of farm activities, including shearing schedules, livestock health, and equipment usage.
- Collaborate with team members to ensure efficient workflow and adherence to safety protocols.
- Perform heavy lifting and physically demanding tasks as required throughout the workday.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Proven experience in farming or agricultural operations is preferred.
- Must be comfortable working with sheep and farm animals
- Strong mechanical knowledge with the ability to troubleshoot and repair farm machinery.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting (up to 50 pounds) and engage in physically demanding tasks for extended periods.
- Familiarity with livestock care is an asset.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Strong work ethic with the ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Strong attention to detail

- WHMIS training is an asset
- G driver's license is an asset
Shift: Part-time, 3 days a week shift (24-28 hrs)
Pay-rate: $18/hr
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $18.00-$20.00 per hour
