Primary Function
The Greenhouse Supervisor is responsible for overseeing day-to-day greenhouse operations, supporting crop production activities, and supervising greenhouse staff to ensure productivity, quality, and compliance with company policies. This role requires strong hands-on leadership, effective communication, and collaboration with management to maintain a safe, efficient, and high-performing greenhouse environment throughout the growing season.
Key Responsibilities
· Provide hands-on leadership and daily supervision to greenhouse employees, working alongside staff to motivate and support performance.
· Ensure all crop work is completed accurately, efficiently, and according to established quality and productivity standards.
· Oversee all crop activities including clipping, twisting, pruning, supporting, picking, lowering, de-leafing, and sucker removal (as required for the crop variety).
· Train, coach, and provide clear instructions to employees on greenhouse tasks and best practices.
· Monitor plant health and support pest and disease scouting efforts; assist employees in identifying issues and report concerns promptly to management.
· Identify and report structural, mechanical, or equipment-related issues within the greenhouse.
· Maintain cleanliness, organization, and safety standards within assigned greenhouse areas.
· Supervise large-scale seasonal activities such as planting, crop clean-out, and end-of-season transitions.
· Complete and submit accurate daily paperwork, labor records, and production reports as required.
· Review labor hours and assist with tracking productivity and performance metrics.
· Ensure all employees follow company policies, Food Safety standards, and Health & Safety regulations.
· Assist management with employee discipline, performance documentation, and conflict resolution in accordance with company procedures.
· Support employee orientation and training at the start of each season.
· Communicate employee concerns, performance issues, and operational challenges to management in a timely manner.
· Perform additional duties as assigned based on operational needs.
Position Requirements
· High school diploma (Grade 12) or equivalent required.
· Previous greenhouse or agricultural experience is an asset; tomato or pepper greenhouse experience preferred.
· Strong leadership skills with a hands-on, team-oriented approach.
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
· Ability to work independently and remain calm under pressure.
· Strong organizational and time-management abilities.
· Familiarity with Food Safety, Health & Safety, and workplace compliance requirements.
· Comfortable working at heights; ability to operate or be trained on a scissor lift.
· Valid Driver’s License; forklift certification or willingness to be trained is an asset.
· Spanish language skills are considered an asset
Working Conditions
· Work is performed in a greenhouse environment with temperatures reaching up to 37°C and noise levels up to 70 dB.
· Requires prolonged periods of standing, walking, bending, and working at heights.
· Frequent manual tasks including lifting up to 50 lbs, twisting, reaching, and repetitive movements.
· Regular interaction with multiple departments and cross-functional teams.
· Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and operational demands with minimal notice.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $65,000.00-$70,000.00 per year
