Role Purpose
The Product Development Engineer is responsible for the design, development, and validation of new and existing agricultural equipment products. This role supports the Product Development Manager in delivering innovative, reliable, and cost-effective solutions that meet customer needs, regulatory requirements, and company standards.
The position plays a key role in translating product requirements into manufacturable designs, working closely with cross-functional teams to ensure successful product launches and continuous improvement of existing products.
Key Responsibilities
Product Design & Development
- Design and develop agricultural equipment components and systems from concept through production release
- Create 3D models, detailed drawings, and engineering specifications
- Ensure designs meet performance, durability, safety, and regulatory requirements
- Apply DFMEA and DFM/DFA principles to optimize product design and manufacturability
- Participate in design reviews and engineering change processes
Testing & Validation
- Develop and execute validation plans (lab and field testing)
- Analyze test data and recommend design improvements
- Support prototype builds and field trials in real agricultural operating conditions
- Ensure products meet reliability, durability, and performance targets
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with, Production Engineering to ensure manufacturability, Supply Chain to support component selection and sourcing, Quality to ensure compliance and continuous improvement, and Sales and Service teams to incorporate customer and field feedback
- Support smooth transition from development to production
Continuous Improvement & Problem Solving
- Investigate field issues and support root cause analysis
- Implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA)
- Drive cost reduction and product improvement initiatives
- Support lifecycle management of existing products
Documentation & Standards
- Maintain accurate engineering documentation, BOMs, and revision control
- Ensure compliance with internal standards and industry regulations
- Support development of technical documentation for production and service
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, or related field
- 3–7 years of product development or design engineering experience
- Experience in agricultural equipment or heavy machinery strongly preferred
- Background in agriculture and/or hands-on experience with farming operations is considered a strong asset
- Experience designing agricultural machinery (e.g., seeding, tillage, or harvesting equipment) is a strong asset
- Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Creo, or similar)
- Strong understanding of mechanical systems, hydraulics, and structural design
- Experience with GD&T and engineering drawing standards
- Familiarity with validation and testing methodologies
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes (welding, machining, assembly)
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
- Effective communication and collaboration across teams
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities
- Detail-oriented with a strong focus on quality
