The Tax Analyst supports the company’s tax function including compliance, tax provisions, indirect taxes, and audits.
The role ensures accuracy and timeliness of tax reporting and acts as a key contact for tax authorities and advisors.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare or coordinate the preparation of corporate income tax returns (federal and provincial)
- Ensure compliance with filing deadlines and regulatory requirements
- Liaise with external advisors for tax return preparation and review
- Review sales tax returns prepared by accounting teams and assist with periodic filings
- Review and prepare reconciliations of general ledger accounts related to indirect taxes
- Calculate instalment payments related to taxes
- Prepare journal entries and payment requests
- Provide guidance to internal teams on indirect tax matters and ensure proper application of tax rules
- Participate in the preparation of quarterly and annual tax provisions
- Support financial close processes for tax-related items
- Analyze variances and document tax positions
- Lead and manage tax audits (income tax and indirect taxes) from an internal standpoint
- Coordinate data collection and documentation with internal stakeholders
- Analyze audit requests and develop supporting positions
- Act as the primary contact with tax authorities and external advisors
- Identify and mitigate tax risks arising from audit activities
- Perform tax analysis related to transactions and business initiatives
- Support business units on tax-related matters
- Contribute to the improvement of tax processes and internal controls
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or relevant field
- CPA designation (completed)
- CPA In-Depth Tax Program – an asset
- 5 years of relevant experience
- Minimum 3 years in tax functions
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills – both written and verbal in French and English, and the ability to develop relationships at all levels in the organization. The position holder will be required to communicate regularly with clients, management and colleagues located outside Quebec.
