Second Cook – Remote Camp

We are looking for a dedicated Second Cook with breakfast and sandwich experience to join our remote camp kitchen. The Second Cook assists the Head Cook with food preparation, meal service, baking, maintaining kitchen cleanliness, and ensuring safe food handling in a remote camp environment.
Responsibilities:
- Proficient in core cooking methods (roasting, grilling, sauteing, baking etc.) meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner) , Ability to prepare soups, sauces, meats, vegetables, and starches according to recipes.
- Handle breakfast service, made-to-order eggs, sandwiches, and bagged lunches.
- Work multiple stations as needed (hot line, cold prep, breakfast).
- Maintain clean, sanitary work areas and follow all food safety standards.
- Complete temperature log and production sheets.
- Assist in minimizing waste, adhering to menu plans, and maintaining inventory rotation.
- Support unloading groceries and general kitchen cleaning (sweeping, mopping, equipment).
- Follow WHMIS, Food Safe, PPE, and OHS requirements.
- Communicate shortages, timing issues, and concerns promptly.
- Work professionally under pressure and support other kitchen staff as required.
- Adapt to menu changes, dietary needs, and shifting priorities.
Required Experience/Qualifications:
- Minimum of 1–2 years of experience in fast-paced commercial/industrial kitchens. (Preference will be given to candidates with direct experience working in a remote camp or similar rotational work environment's.)
- Minimum 1–2 years of experience in: Breakfast service: Confidently preparing eggs to order (fried, scrambled, poached, omelets, etc. and Lunch & sandwich prep: Mass sandwich production, wraps, salads, and cold table setup
- General food prep: chopping, portioning, following recipes, batch cooking.
- Ensure quality products are being consistently produced
- Have a current Food Safe certificate and WHIMIS
- Strong attention to detail and pride in presentation.
- Developed knife skills and strong general food preparation abilities.
- (Additional Nice-to-Have ) Baking: muffins, cookies, squares, bread, dessert items.
Skills and Abiliities:
- Strong multi-tasking and time-management skills.
- Ability to follow menus, recipes, and direction from the Head Cook or Camp Manager.
- Comfortable working in remote, isolated environments.
- Reliable and punctual, especially in a camp rotation environment.
- Team-oriented with a positive attitude.
Required Safety Certifications:
- Valid WHIMIS
- Valid Food Safety
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand for extended periods and maintain a steady pace during peak meal periods.
- Lifting 25-50 lbs. (food supplies, pots, equipment)
