Low Murchison Radnoff LLP, a mid-sized law firm, is looking for a Senior Litigation Legal Assistant to provide essential support to lawyers by managing litigation files, preparing legal documents, conducting research, and coordinating court-related activities. This role requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a thorough understanding of the Rules of Ontario Civil Procedures and litigation processes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Organize and maintain litigation files, including electronic and physical records.
- Track deadlines and court dates using bring-forward systems and providing reminders.
- Draft pleadings, affidavits, motion records, and correspondence using firm software.
- Prepare affidavit of documents, trial briefs and exhibits for hearings and court proceedings.
- Conduct research on case law, statutes, and court procedures.
- Summarize findings for lawyer review.
- File documents with courts and tribunals (including e-filing).
- Coordinate service of documents and liaise with process servers.
- Communicate with clients, opposing counsel, and court staff.
- Schedule meetings and appointments (in-person and virtual), depositions, and mediations.
- Opening, maintaining client files, and closing files for storage.
- Respond to inquiries and manage communications.
- Docketing, preparation of invoices, and following up on outstanding accounts.
- Faxing, photocopying, scanning.
- Filing of all communications and documents received and sent in all formats, as required by the Law Society of Ontario.
- Dictation.
Qualifications:
- Law Clerk diploma or certificate from an accredited institution.
- Minimum 5 – 7 years of experience in litigation.
- Proficiency in Microsoft 365, Outlook, Adobe Pro, GhostPractice, ACL, Philips SpeechLive.
- Strong knowledge of Ontario Rules of Civil Procedure.
- Experience with Superior Court, Small Claims Court, Federal Court, Tribunals, Bankruptcy and Commercial Court, and filing in the online portal Justice Services or Case Center.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities with strict deadlines.
