The Truck Mechanic is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and overall reliability of the company's fleet of light-duty, medium-duty, and heavy-duty trucks. This position plays a critical role in ensuring vehicles remain safe, compliant, and ready for the road.
The successful candidate will have strong mechanical knowledge, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to diagnose and repair a wide range of mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and diesel engine systems. Just as important, they must be highly organized, keep accurate maintenance records, and communicate effectively with drivers, supervisors, vendors, and fellow team members.
We're looking for someone who can hear a strange noise and know whether it's a wheel bearing, a turbo issue, or simply a coffee cup rolling around behind the seat.
Duties & Responsibilities
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Perform inspections, diagnostics, repairs, and preventative maintenance on company trucks and fleet vehicles.
- Troubleshoot and repair diesel and gasoline engines, transmissions, brakes, suspensions, steering, electrical systems, and hydraulic components.
- Complete scheduled maintenance services, including oil changes, filter replacements, fluid checks, and safety inspections.
- Inspect vehicles to ensure compliance with regulatory and company safety standards.
- Diagnose mechanical issues using computerized diagnostic tools and traditional troubleshooting methods.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of repairs, maintenance activities, parts inventory, inspections, and vehicle histories.
- Coordinate and communicate repair schedules with operations personnel to minimize downtime.
- Monitor vehicle conditions and recommend repairs, replacements, or upgrades when required.
- Assist in planning preventive maintenance programs to improve fleet reliability and performance.
- Maintain inventory of commonly used parts, tools, and shop supplies.
- Conduct pre-season, post-season, and annual fleet inspections.
- Perform emergency repairs in the shop or field as required.
- Work with suppliers and vendors to source parts and equipment efficiently and cost-effectively.
- Ensure all work is completed safely and in accordance with manufacturer specifications and industry standards.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized shop environment.
- Support drivers and operators by providing technical guidance and answering maintenance-related questions.
- Participate in after-hours and on-call maintenance support when required.
- Continuously improve technical knowledge and stay current with industry developments and repair techniques.
- Assist with other fleet and equipment maintenance duties as assigned.

Qualifications
- Journeyman Heavy Equipment Technician
- CVIP License considered an asset
- Minimum 5 years of experience repairing and maintaining heavy-duty trucks and commercial vehicles.
- Strong working knowledge of diesel engines, electrical systems, air brakes, hydraulics, and driveline components.
- Experience with preventative maintenance programs and fleet management practices.
- Ability to diagnose and repair both mechanical and electronic systems.
- Valid Class 5 driver's license (Class 1 or 3 considered an asset).
- Strong computer skills and experience using maintenance management software.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and repair documentation.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and effectively manage time in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong commitment to workplace safety and safe work practices.
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Standing, bending, kneeling, climbing, and working in awkward positions for extended periods.
- Work performed both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Overtime and after-hours work may be required during peak operating periods.
- Travel to field locations for service calls may be required.
- Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) including steel-toed boots, safety glasses, gloves, and FR clothing.
- Exposure to hazards associated with mechanical repairs and maintenance.
