Position: Specialist - Facility Services
Salary Range: $100,743 - $120,136 Band 8
Location: Facility Services, J.W. Singleton Education Centre
Work Schedule: 35 hours/week, 12 months/year
Effective Date: September 1, 2026
Position Summary:
The Specialist - Facility Services reports to the Manager, Facility Services. This position manages service contracts, researches and establishes service and training expectations, establishes a close liaison with 9 Facility Services Supervisors, School and Board Office Administrators, Contractors, School Boards, Municipalities and the Region of Halton. As a member of the Facility Services Team, prepares operating and supply budgets, writes specifications and prepares report documents. This position recruits , hires and supervises caretaking staff, manages planned building and grounds projects, as well as emergency projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manages talent resources and budgets to ensure they are being used effectively, including
- Recruitment of caretaking staff, interview and evaluation.
- Recruitment of summer students, onboarding and health and safety orientation.
- Authorization of CUPE overtime and urgent issues.
- CUPE staffing allocation, training and orientation of staff
- Establishment of training for supervisors, source out and coordinate contract caretaking staff issues.
- Develop and maintain training for all CUPE staff to insure compliance
- Responsible for cleaning services/specifications/contract renewal/tendering and service standards
- Manages snow removal/specifications/contract renewal, waste and recycling contract services, security
- operations, food services and contracts specifications – renewal of contract.
- Selects and purchases CUPE uniforms.
- Develops and manages budget supplies , services and training
- Manages contracts and agreements with outside agencies.
- Oversees Caretaking Services
- Coordinates task and equipment specifications, budget, central trucking
- Participates on various Committees, including:
- Crisis Management Team.
- Employee Relations Committee.
- Department meetings.
- Environmental Leadership Committee
- Accessibility Coordinating Committee
- Leads Special Projects as assigned, for example:
- School Ground Greening
- Develop, Initiate and Apply best practices to suppport legislative changes such as recycle, compost and waste regulations.
Qualifications:
Minimum Requirements:
- 3 year College diploma in Business Administration
- 5 years relevant experience
- Certificate in Management or Leadership program
- Accounting, project management, and knowledge of occupational health and safety
Preferred Requirements:
- Management Degree
- 6 years relevant experience in a unionized environment
- Certificate in Project Management
- Experience in Human Resources and Procurement
