Shift: Monday - Friday, 7:30am - 9:00am & 2:30pm - 6:00pm
*Sites are open on Pro D days and there is potential to work during breaks

Nature & Scope
Join Our Team! We are seeking a Support & Inclusion school age leader for our before and after school program for Children age 5-12 years old. In this role, you’ll provide compassionate, strength-based support to children, including those with diverse needs, ensuring their safety, well-being, and full participation. You’ll collaborate with a supportive team to create an inclusive environment, contribute to individualized care plans, and deliver engaging, developmentally-appropriate programs that promote learning, wellness, and belonging.
This role also involves maintaining active supervision, supporting positive behaviour, building relationships with children and families, and helping to create a safe, welcoming program space.
Major Responsibilities- in this position, you will:

Provide consistent, compassionate, and strengths-based support to children with diverse needs, ensuring their full participation, safety, engagement, and overall well-being.

Contribute to the development, implementation, and ongoing review of individualized care and support plans while promoting each child’s strengths and supporting areas for growth.

Implement and monitor the success of behaviour support strategies in alignment with individual care and support plans.

Collaborate with the program team to foster an inclusive, supportive environment where all children feel a sense of belonging.

Support the development and delivery of high-quality, developmentally-appropriate programs for children ages 5–12, aligned with YMCA standards, A Place to Connect curriculum, and legislative requirements.

Design and lead indoor and outdoor activities that engage children of all abilities and backgrounds.

Promote learning, wellness, inclusion, and positive self- esteem through program leadership.

Maintain active supervision at all times, ensuring compliance with YMCA, Child Care Licensing (CCFL), and all health, safety, and legal standards.

Build and maintain positive relationships with children, families, staff, volunteers, and community partners to support exceptional program delivery.

Provide mentorship, guidance, and support to new staff and volunteers, fostering a collaborative team environment.

Interact directly with children to deliver child-centered programming, support positive behaviour, and guide conflict resolution.

Implement inclusive practices and provide individualized support, including enhanced supervision ratios where required.

Maintain clean, safe, organized program spaces and prepare nutritious snacks in accordance with health and safety guidelines.

Communicate effectively with participants and partners while supporting organizational initiatives and fundraising efforts.
Qualification-you bring:
-
Must be at least 19 years of age.
-
Bring experience supporting children with diverse needs in childcare, school, or recreational settings, ideally with those aged 5–12
-
Are knowledgeable in inclusive practices, whole child development, positive youth development, behaviour support strategies, trauma-informed practices, and social-emotional leaning.

Are confident planning and leading inclusive indoor and outdoor activities that support learning and development

Able to build strong, respectful relationships with children, families, colleagues, schools and community partners

Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, with a strong track record of reliability and commitment

Understand (or are willing to learn) YMCA standards, Child Care Licensing (CCFL), and health and safety requirements

Take pride in maintaining clean, organized, and welcoming program environments
-
Comfortable with day-to-day responsibilities such as snack preparation and general program upkeep
-
Demonstrate clear communication, professionalism, discretion, and a strong commitment to maintaining confidentiality
-
Take initiative, demonstrate strong problem-solving skills, and approach challenges with a positive mindset
-
Demonstrate strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and the ability to learn new software.

Emergency First Aid & CPR certification (or willingness to obtain within 30 days of hire is required).

Completion of 20 hours of training in Child Development, Child Guidance, and/or Nutrition is required; YMCA BC offers complimentary training to support this requirement
