As a Mechanical Design Technologist, you will play a key role in the design, development, and execution of technically complex projects that support innovative products and systems. Working collaboratively with cross-functional teams, you will contribute technical expertise throughout the project lifecycle—from concept and design through to testing, implementation, and production. Responsibilities
Engineering Design & Development
- Support the design, analysis, and development of mechanical and/or electrical systems in alignment with project and contract requirements.
- Contribute to product development initiatives, ensuring designs meet technical specifications, applicable codes, and industry standards.
- Prepare, review, and maintain engineering documentation, including drawings, specifications, layouts, and design concepts.
- Perform engineering calculations, detailed design work, and technical analyses to support project execution.
- Develop and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs) to accompany engineering drawings and documentation.
- Participate in design reviews, provide technical expertise across projects, and contribute innovative ideas to improve product performance and functionality.
Project Coordination & Client Support
- Assist in the planning and execution of engineering projects, ensuring timelines, schedules, and deliverables are achieved.
- Participate in design and project meetings, collaborating cross-functionally to address technical challenges and ensure efficient problem resolution.
- Prepare technical reports, presentations, and supporting documentation for ongoing projects and proposals.
- Support proposal development and contribute technical input for client submissions.
- Liaise with clients as required, maintaining accurate records of communications, project updates, and activities.
- Ensure all engineering work, project documentation, and related activities are accurately recorded and maintained.
Compliance & Additional Responsibilities
- Adhere to all environmental, health and safety regulations, as well as organizational quality and environmental management systems.
- Travel occasionally as required to support project or client needs.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
The ideal candidate is an experienced and technically skilled engineering professional with a strong background in manufacturing environments and a passion for designing practical, high-quality solutions. With a minimum of six (6) years of experience in mechanical design, you bring hands-on expertise in electro-mechanical systems and a strong understanding of Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA) principles. You are highly proficient in both 2D and 3D CAD software—preferably AutoCAD and Inventor—and possess exceptional drafting capabilities. Backed by a Mechanical Technologist Diploma (or equivalent), you are confident interpreting engineering drawings and specifications while balancing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Equally important, you are a collaborative team player with strong communication skills, a detail-oriented mindset, and a proactive, analytical approach to problem-solving. You thrive working independently, take initiative, and enjoy contributing innovative ideas that support continuous improvement and project success.
