Intervener – Part Time (Every Second Weekend) contract
The Ottawa Rotary Home is seeking a Part-Time Intervener to join our Intervener Services Program, working one-on-one with individuals who are deafblind.
Interveners play a unique and highly meaningful role, supporting individuals in accessing information, communicating effectively, and engaging fully in their community and daily activities.
This position involves building a consistent, trusting relationship while helping individuals navigate their environments with confidence and independence.
Schedule
- Part-time position
- Every second weekend
- 9:00 AM – 8:00 PM shifts
Staff in this role may also be eligible to pick up additional casual shifts in other programs, based on availability and interest.
About the Role
As an Intervener, you will work directly with individuals who are deafblind and who live within our supported living program. The focus of the role is facilitating communication, promoting independence, and supporting meaningful participation in everyday experiences.
This is a specialized, relationship-based role requiring patience, adaptability, and strong interpersonal skills.
What You Will Do
- Provide one-on-one intervener support
- Facilitate communication and access to information
- Support community engagement and participation
- Assist with orientation and environmental awareness
- Encourage independence and decision-making
- Assist with activities of daily living and routines
- Provide hands-on personal care, including toileting and feeding
- Administer medication following training and established procedures
- Maintain respectful and accurate documentation
Who Should Apply

- Intervener or Deafblind Support programs
- Developmental Services Worker (DSW)
- Personal Support Worker (PSW)
- Child and Youth Worker (CYW)
- Disability studies or related fields
- Individuals with relevant experience or strong interest in deafblind services
Direct experience with deafblind individuals is an asset but not required. Paid training is provided.

Qualifications & Requirements
- Relevant education or equivalent experience
- Strong communication and observation skills
- Current First Aid & CPR certification (or willingness to obtain)
- Clear Vulnerable Sector Check
- Ability to work the weekend schedule
