Maple Manor Nursing Home in Tillsonburg ON is seeking an IPAC Lead to join our team.
Reporting to the Administrator, the Infection, Prevention and Control Lead (IPAC) will be our in-home IPAC expert, responsible for the development, implementation, coordination, and evaluation of an Infection Control Program that upholds our policies and legislative requirements. With a focus on continuous improvement, the IPAC Lead will recommend policies and implement procedures and responses to infectious/communicable diseases and be compliant with legislation. The IPAC Lead works collaboratively with the team to ensure our Home maintains a culture that prioritizes resident care, safety, high-compliance, and accountability.

RESPONSIBILITIES
- Coordination and implementation of infection prevention and control practices for the Home
- Coordinate immunization programs, mask fit testing, and other IPAC initiatives
- Participate in the planning of an infection surveillance program and lead the management of outbreaks in consultation with the local public health unit
- Perform daily infection surveillance and develop the monthly surveillance report
- Plan, develop and deliver all training/orientation and education programs on infection prevention and management practices to employees, in accordance with identified needs, legislation, and company standards and act as a resource regarding infection prevention and control
- Maintain current vaccines for all residents; ensure the home is in compliance with the infection control guidelines mandated by the Long-Term Care Homes Act
- Monitor the compliance of staff regarding such things as the proper use of personal protective equipment, hand hygiene practices, and effective cleaning and disinfectant protocols
- Monitor and analyze trends in infections and outbreaks, associated risk factors and current IPAC strategies, pursuing continuous quality improvement and making recommendations for changes when necessary
- Identify and report safety hazards, conduct regular safety inspections and follow safe working practices and behavior
- Provide expert guidance on facility design, maintenance, and construction projects
- Lead the implementation of changes mandated by regulatory, accrediting, and licensing agencies (includes reporting communicable diseases to the local public health)
- Monitor staff compliance with infection prevention guidelines regarding the disposal of sharps and biomedical waste, use of personal protective equipment, hand hygiene practices and provides reports to the Infection Prevention Committees
- Analyze infection trends, risk factors, and evaluate prevention and control strategies
- Perform program assessment and make recommendations for correction and improvement
- Lead the annual influenza vaccination campaign
- Lead outbreak response efforts in coordination with the local public health unit
- Conduct research and interpret evidence-based literature in developing IPAC best practices, guidelines, tools, and resources
QUALIFICATIONS
- Completed post-secondary education in a health-related field including but not limited to medicine, nursing, laboratory technology, public health, or biology
- Current RPN registration with the College of Nurses is considered an asset
- Certification in Infection Prevention & Control (CIC) or Associate Infection Prevention and Control Certification (A-IPC) or Long Term Care Certification in Infection Prevention (LTC-CIP) required
- A minimum of 2 years of experience in infection control preferred
- Previous experience in long-term care as well as knowledge of applicable legislation an asset
SKILLS
- Experience in infection prevention and control practices including infectious diseases, cleaning and disinfection, data collection and trend analysis, outbreak management, microbiology, adult education, epidemiology, and program management
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to communicate information and insights to others
- Self-motivated and able to work as part of a team
- Exceptional facilitation skills to mentor and advise staff, prepare and conduct education sessions for staff and facilitate group training
- Exceptional interpersonal skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Point Click Care and other computerized documentation systems

ABOUT MAPLE MANOR
Maple Manor Nursing Home, locally owned and operated, is a long-term care facility located in the downtown core of Tillsonburg Ontario. The home is licensed by the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care and is Accredited through the Person-Centred Long Term Care Community Standards of CARF Canada. The Home is a 101-bed, smoke free facility offering private, semi-private and ward accommodations. In addition, Maple Manor has four temporary licenses for Interim Long-Term Care Home beds through the Aging at Home program. These beds provide a location for residents who would otherwise be kept in hospital while awaiting placement into a Long-Term Care facility.
