Universe in the Pocket Montessori School is seeking a caring, responsible, and dedicated RECE Toddler Teacher to join our team and work with children between 12 and 30 months of age.
We are looking for an educator who understands the developmental needs of toddlers, respects each child’s individual pace, and is committed to creating a calm, warm, and consistent Montessori classroom environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and implement the daily Toddler classroom program in accordance with Ontario Ministry of Education requirements, How Does Learning Happen?, and Montessori principles
- Create and maintain a safe, calm, organized, and developmentally appropriate prepared environment
- Observe children and document their development, interests, and progress
- Support children’s independence in daily routines, including eating, dressing, toileting, cleaning, and personal care
- Present individual and small-group activities appropriate to each child’s age and developmental level
- Organize and support the daily routine, including arrival, Montessori work cycle, outdoor time, meals, rest time, and transitions
- Ensure the physical and emotional safety and well-being of all children
- Follow all school policies, public health requirements, licensing regulations, and confidentiality standards
- Prepare classroom materials and maintain a clean, organized learning environment
- Communicate professionally and respectfully with parents and guardians
- Collaborate with Montessori teachers, assistants, administration, students, and other team members
- Provide guidance and supervision to classroom assistants, students, and volunteers
- Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and school events
Qualifications:
- Current registration and good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators — required
- Diploma in Early Childhood Education
- Experience working with toddlers
- Knowledge of the Child Care and Early Years Act and Ontario licensed child care requirements
- Understanding of How Does Learning Happen?
- Montessori training or previous experience in a Montessori environment is a strong asset
- Valid Standard First Aid and CPR-C certification
- Current Vulnerable Sector Check
- Medical and immunization documentation as required for licensed child care
- Strong observation, planning, and documentation skills
- Strong English communication skills
- Ability to remain calm, attentive, and professional in an active classroom environment
- Reliability, punctuality, and the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
