Position Title: Business Systems Analyst
Status: Full Time Support Staff
Hours: 40 hours per week
Faculty/Department: Office of the Registrar
Campus/Location: North Campus - must be comfortable working hybrid, a minimum of four (4) days on-site.
Salary:
Payband: J
Salary Range: ($43.61 – $50.39)
Starting Salary: ($43.61)
Progression through the payband is in accordance with the increments in the payband as outline in the Full-Time Support Staff Collective Agreement based on actual service in the payband.
About the Office of the Registrar at Humber:
The Office of the Registrar supports and celebrates student success. We provide students and the campus community with support through the distribution of key information, high-quality service delivery and the maintenance of essential systems and processes. Our dedicated staff work in a myriad of areas including Admissions, Academic Records, Convocation, Contact Centre, Fees, Financial Aid, Registration & Course Scheduling, Reporting, and Student Systems at both our North and Lakeshore campuses. About the Business Systems Analyst Role:
Under the direction of the Manager, Admissions and Engagement Systems, the Business Systems Analyst (BSA) gathers information and documents business system requirements through interviews with employees, managers and clients both internal and external.
The BSA writes specifications to meet the requirements by researching emerging technologies for new solutions and using techniques such as data modeling, to create rules for processes in the appropriate systems. The incumbent is responsible for business systems design, requirements and mentors and guides the development team on code structure to ensure performance is optimized using the appropriate systems. The incumbent creates, documents and coordinates testing with the development team to validate code to spec and ensure that systems meet specifications; writes user manuals and other documentation; creates training material and trains users on new capabilities and ensures data standards and security are maintained.
The incumbent requires excellent organizational and time management skills. Strong written and verbal communication skills are needed to present information. Analytical skills are required to cull useful information from different sources, while creativity can help the BSA develop new solutions to old problems. The ability to work as part of a team is also an important requirement. The BSA must have an educational background in computer science or information science, and they must understand the post-secondary education business enough to coordinate information technology with business objectives
About you:
Education:
The successful candidate will possess a 4-year degree or equivalent in computer or information science, business administration.
Additionally, the completion of technical writing courses or certification in writing technical documentation for translating coding requirements and procedural manuals.
Experience and Skills:
A minimum of 5 years of related experience demonstrating the following:
Superior analytical and problem-solving skills.
Demonstrated extensive proficiency working with student information systems and relational databases.
Superior communication skills with the ability to explain complex processes both verbal and written and translate to the technical team.
Extensive experience working in the post-secondary education environment with strong understanding of college business processes.
Strong leadership skills and the ability to work independently.
Superior logical and technical abilities to develop and modify complex application programs.
Proficient knowledge of MS Office Suite and various wiki tools to create and maintain system and user documentation, and training manuals.
Extensive experience working with large Oracle databases to produce query and reports using data mining tools such as Cognos, SQL, and scripting tools.
Experience using issue and project tracking tools/software.
Ability to train, mentor and translate ideas and motivate a team.
