About the Role
We are looking for an experienced and passionate Software Developer to join our growing team. Your primary responsibilities will include effective and efficient virtual reality application development (designing, coding, debugging, quality assurance and documenting) for a range of exciting immersive products. In your role, you will have the opportunity to collaborate with other developers, project managers, UI designers and clients. Our ideal candidate has professional experience building, supporting and publishing AR/VR software, serious games and /or related software.
This position is funded through the Graduate Transition Initiative, delivered by techNL in partnership with the Department of Jobs, Growth and Rural Development. The initiative provides support to eligible companies that hire recent graduates into software development and tech sales roles, providing meaningful early-career experience while supporting long-term growth in Newfoundland and Labrador’s tech sector.
Key Responsibilities
- Planning, development and testing of new features (concept to deployment) in a continuous integration environment
- Work with the team to plan, design, and develop AR/VR software for headsets using Meta, HTC, etc.
- Rapidly prototype innovative AR/VR concepts, features, and mechanics
- Proactively collaborate with teammates and communicate with project members to ensure development efforts proceed efficiently and follow key milestones
- Write clear, maintainable, portable C# code that follows established programming principles with strong attention to detail
- Version control, bug track, use relevant tools (Git, Jira, etc), and employ agile principles for lean development approaches (SCRUM, Lean, Kanban)
Key Skills and Qualifications
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to learn technical products and explain them confidently.
- Business acumen and an understanding of client needs and outcomes.
- Demonstrated problem-solving abilities and comfort troubleshooting issues.
- Experience with technical tools, VR, software, or healthcare environments is an asset.
- Familiarity with CRM systems (HubSpot preferred).
- Completion, in the past two years of a minimum one-year post-secondary or skills training program at a recognized NL institution.
- Computer science, technology, health sciences, or related programs are an asset.
- Applicants with a combination of education and relevant experience will also be considered.
- 1+ year(s) of professional experience developing Unity applications
- Advanced knowledge of the Unity integrated development environment and C#
- Rapid prototyping, proof of concept work and MVP development followed by high fidelity conversion
- Understanding and experience with Learning Management Systems is an asset (ie. Moodle, D2L)
- UX and UI design principles
- Experience with android development
- Knowledge with C or C++
- Integration of biometrics and eye tracking in AR/VR applications
- Experience in the development of virtual reality software applications
- Experience working with a commercial software product
Graduate Transition Initiative Eligibility
- Reside in Newfoundland & Labrador and be legally entitled to work full-time.
- Have completed an eligible program within the last two years.
- Not be enrolled as a full-time student.
- Be available to begin full-time employment at program start.
- Not currently holding a full-time permanent role in the NL tech sector.
