The Registered Nurse/Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RN/RPN) reports directly to the Patient Care Manager of the Southern Alberta Forensic Psychiatry Center. Working as a member of the SAFPC multidisciplinary team utilizes nursing process, critical thinking and complex problem-solving skills in order to provide safe, competent and ethical nursing care to patients within the inpatient Not Criminally Responsible (NCR) program. The RN/RPN provides care throughout the life span, in all stages of health, complexity of illness and predictability of outcome. As a practitioner the RN/RPN carries out professional duties as assigned including treatment and rehabilitation services to Not Criminally Responsible due to Mental Disorder (NCR-MD) patients who are under the Criminal Code Review Board legislation. RN/RPN practice includes independent and interdependent functions. These functions are determined by scope of practice, Recovery Alberta policy & procedures, College of Alberta Registered Nurse and/or College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses standards & ethics, the Health Profession Act and relevant legislation. The successful candidate will be employed and work on the NCR treatment unit at SAFPC.
As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of Recovery Alberta. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit holders will be paid $40.76 - $55.79 per hour. Upon being entered into the register as a Registered Nurse, the rate of pay will be adjusted in accordance with the UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii), as applicable.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). Additional Required Qualifications:
Completion of a Diploma/Degree in Nursing and/or Psychiatric Nursing. Current eligibility for membership with CRNA or CRPNA. At least two years of recent experience within an inpatient mental health, forensic or rehabilitation program. Training in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI). Current CPR. Medical capabilities. Annual compulsory education.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working with the Not Criminally Responsible population is an asset. Previous community related experience is an asset.
